Subject: A change of focus Last year I ran my first marathon, the White Rock Marathon in Dallas. I felt like I managed the race badly (too fast, too early, and for too long ) and missed my 10:00 min./mi. goal, coming in at at 4:34:00. Most of my running group decided to take a shot at the San Antonio Marathon this weekend, and they are much improved over last year. I decided that I really liked middle distance running, so I wanted to run a number of shorter runs. I had also decided that the (almost ) everyday running was getting to be a beating, and that I would branch out some after the Cowtown Half in February.
In early October, I started having some Achilles tendon pain that just didn't get better. I missed the DRC Half in Dallas, and finally went to the specialist after three weeks of rest. The diagnosis is a partially torn Achilles tendon. No running or biking for 4 - 6 weeks, but I can swim to my heart's content (assuming I don't drown ). No White Rock Half, which was the run I really was looking forward to running.
So, it sounds like I get to start my "diversified" training early. I guess a short triathlon is in my future.
