Does anyone have any solutions for heart rate monitor irritation?

Although I am not well endowed the heart rate monitor does not seem to agree with me!  I have changed to the new soft band, but still I am always left with a mark and sore skin after a long work out.  I have tried all wierd and wonderfull solutions; talc, vaseline etc.... It got so bad during marathon training that I had to stop wearing the heart rate monitor and was left with a scar this summer.   I am starting to train for my first IM, so would really like to be able to use the HR monitor to track my progress.  Any recommendations?

Thank you!

I don't know if my description will help here cos we may use different for what I am going to describe. Anyway...I cut up a spongy dish cloth-we call them a Wettex here-into a small square and wear it under the part that irritates. My bra sometimes irritates too.

I hope that helps.

There's a new sports bra called Numetrex with heart rate sensors in the fabric.  You wear it in place of the chest strap.  It doesn't chafe or rub and it's a great sports bra on its own.  You can buy it on-line at www.numetrex.com.  It's compatible with Polar heart rate monitors and uses the snap in wearlink pod from your Polar soft strap.  Good Luck.

I tuck my hr strap right under or just above the jog bra strap elastic. Still get some rub tho' if it's a particularly sweaty day.

Have you tried those bras from Polar with the strap built in? (Do they even still make them?)

My wife uses Body Glide and she is very happy with the results. Also the strap does not need to be very tight in order to read the heart rate.
Good Luck

I don't use the elastic band at all. I just stuff the hr strap into my bra, above my boobs. Most of my sports bras and tri tops are tight enough to hold it in place very well.

Hi Bexsmith,

We are sorry to hear the strap is irritating you! We very rarely hear of this happening. In fact, we have had nothing but GREAT feedback on the new Wearlink strap.

Polar manufactures a sports bra with an insert for the transmitter that may help. And as someone mentioned above, Numetrex makes a good accessory for men and women.

Please contact us ASAP using this link : Contact.

We would love to do whatever it takes to make sure you are comfortable with the transmitter.

Good luck with training.

Agreed, great ideas here. I'm impressed that Polar also responded, that's great!

I have used body glide, but I'm going to experiment with the strapless strap stuff also.

My polar picks up my HR even down lower, almost on my belly (below my ribs and below my bra) so I wear it there to avoid the irritation.
