Nah- it's never too early to start an IM thread

I've actually been looking at the weather for this time of the year- to see what I'm really getting myself into.

This reminds me, I need to get around to finding a place too. We were thinking more along the lines of renting a condo or house to keep things quieter than your typical hotel and have a kitchen too.

I thought about getting a condo as well- there's a bunch on vrbo.com  My only concern is the whole water issue- if you stay in a condo will it be filtered?  Knowing my luck I'll end up getting sick before the race.  That's my biggest worry.

I looked into some all inclusives- so I wouldn't have to worry about cooking and stuff.  But then a few people told me that they actually got sick from staying at all inclusives in Mexico and the resort food is bland.  Since I've never been to Mexico before I'm not sure what the best option is.

Last time I stayed in a condo in Mexico (south of Cozumel), the unit had to bottled water machines. But then we ate locally all of the time and never got sick, including ice in drinks.

I was flat on my back sick the 2 weeks before IMAZ 2007 and never left Washington, so go figure.

I've been my usual OCD self in looking thru the different hotels and other options, such as vrbo.com. One place you might want to check out is tripadvisor ; as they have hotel reviews by travelers, a forum for discussions, etc.

The condo options looked great, but I ended up deciding to go with one of the all-inclusives. I picked Cozumeleno. It is right next to Melia, and both end up being the same cost for 3 people. Wyndham was cheaper, but gets fairly poor reviews. Presidente is a very nice hotel, and the priciest option. Check the locations as well; Melia/Cozumeleno are north of the town, Presidente and Wyndham are south (closer to the race start/transition).

One thing about the condo options... since the couple of days prior to the race are part of Thanksgiving week, many of the condo owners raise their rates quite a bit, and are reluctant to rent for just the last couple of days of that holiday week.

Good luck, hope to see you all in Cozumel next year!

I picked the Wyndem... $780 all inclusive for TWO people for SIX nights. .. transportation to and from the race.. 20% off of their spa

I have stayed at El Cozumeleno, Iberostar, Allegro and Cozumel Palace. I am going back to Cozumel Palace for this race because ...
1-the location is within walking distance from downtown
2-the food (and beverage) is consisently above par for an all-inclusive
3-there is a hot tub in every room for recovery

It is a bit more expensive, but in my opinion it is worth it.

It's not too early for a thread! Considering my life for the next year is now booked (busy) due to this event, there's no time like the present to start talking about it.

I have a long ways to go. I did IMAZ in 07, but now am completely out of shape. But with a full year to get in shape, hopefully I can get back up to par.

Yeah- it's really thorough and helpful.  I think it was also posted on BT as well.  It looks like the run will have very little shade.

Should not be a problem for me... as I do not anticipate running while it's still light out

LOL- I was actually trying to calculate that out in my head wondering how long I'd actually be running in daylight.  I'm assuming that Cozumel is in the central time zone right???

Ok- my type A is kicking in.  Mexico is in the central time zone (which I assumed) and they do participate in daylights saving.  So....for the IM I should be getting off the bike around 3:30pm ish (being conservative) and I'd only be running for about 1.5 hours until sunset.  Umm yeah- I will be doing most of the run after sunset
