I read this article...  http://ironman.com/events/ironman/worldchampionship/kona2008/dawn-henry-catches-up-with-two-local-finishers-of-the-ford-ironman-world-championship-last-saturday

and there must be a typo...the girl finishes with an 11:46 and only 14 min before the cut off.  This can't be right? Can it?

What are the odds that I could complete a IM when I'm 18 if I finnish a 1/2 IM in the summer under 5:15.  Will my time be close to doubling or tripling.  People do say I have great endurance. I'm planning to do at least 17 miles runs for my 1/2 IM.  My PR for 1/2 marathon is already 1:45... I really have got to drop that time if I want to succed.

You need to stop worrying about your running then.  Because your ability to run will not be your limiter to reaching any sort of time.

To run you need to come off the bike relatively fresh and in control.  The bane of EVERY long distance tri race is the bike.  It is too easy to overcook it or think "I feel great, let me keep up with those guys/gals."  Then you get off the bike and go "Oh crap."  Come mile 10??  Walking from cramps ..........

You want to run well off the bike?  Ride lots, ride often, ride varied terrain.

My 1/2 marathon PR?  1:24.  My HIM run PR?  Around 1:45.  Why?  Because I love to go fast on the bike ....... often faster than I should to complete the WHOLE race, not just the bike portion.

Right now the bike is not my limiter...Swimming...  my two spritn tri's this summer were bad...only on the swimming.  I had a 9:14 for a 400yds and a 11:14 for a 500 yds.  However, Before the tri's i took a 2 year layoff of swimming and then swam twice before my swims... 2 swims - race - 2 swims - race.

Now I have already done a lot better... after 3 weeks of training I got below 2min /100.  One of my workouts I swam a 20:04 1000yds and then after 250 of easy swimming a 10:06 500 yds.

As in my log PR for 2112 yds is 47:16 but I'll get that down to 40 min by end of january or thats my goal.

Also I did lots of riding this summer, when I was in the groove for Road racing ( 200 miles  a week for 3 months of summer ).  Now I wasn't Tri training for my two sprint tri just biking and hoping it was  short enough distance that the swim didn't matter and I hadn't lost too  much from track season even though that wasn't great.  I have put in a coupla 70 mile rides and 50 miles are pieces of cake right now at Z 2.

By the way.. Your exactly right my first 2 tris my legs felt dead. on the run.  I ran 23 min 5k's.

........Here my almost a PR track story for the 3200m...... PR before 11min:19secs

Gun goes off and then at 5 and 3/4 laps (outta 8) there is lightning and the race is called.  Ok now the 4x400 goes and we win with our best guy running a low 48sec 400(just a beast)  Then luckily becasue of my coach with almost all the teams gone we restart the 3200 and I get 11:19.  Tied my PR.  I think I would have broke 11 min if not for the hoopla. (srry no point really)

Swim lessons yet?  Biggest improvement I've ever seen in any one element was getting 3 simple 30 minute one on one lessons.  Dropped my usual 100 yard swim time over 10 seconds with just those simple lessons.

Henbest made the most of her World Championship day, coming across the line at 11:46 pm, just 14 minutes before the midnight cut-off.
