Subject: Tattoos
I've seen some threads regarding tattoos over at slowtwitch, but can't recall seing one here, so I decided to start one.

There was a discussion recently about a ridiculous paint job on a bike and somebody started a thread on what was worse. His pinnacale of lameness was getting an Ironman tattoo. He claimed it made you a corporate marketer's slut.

What's the opinion here? Personally, if I manage to reach that goal next year and complete an Ironman event, I think there's a very strong possibility that I'd get an mdot tattoo. To me, it's not being a shill for WTC, it's showing off an accomplishment. Yes, it's a corporate logo, but it's one that stands for something. I consider it far different than getting somthing like a Nike swoosh.

I guess the other option is getting a tattoo of 140.6, but that's even more obscure.

People get inked for different reasons. The only thing that matters is that it means something special to YOU. It doesn’t mater in the least what anyone else thinks.

I wanna see a group pic of that.

Have you figured out a location for your mdot yet?

I agree with PirateGirl. That will absolutely require pics!

If I ever get one, I'd probably do my shoulder blade. I'd consider upper arm, but that might be a little too out there. Kind of seems to cross the line from being proud to bragging.

I haven't decided yet. I was thinking above the ankle but my legs are the only body part that I like and I don't know if I want a tattoo there So leaves the bicep/ shoulder area. I am pretty sure that is where it's going to be, so it will show when I swim and when I am wearing a tri top.

Several of my friends have gotten tattoos, multiple tattoos...it's like one of our things to do whenever we go out of town somewhere...get something pierced or tattooed. I have only wanted one triathlon in life and that is the Mdot, but I'm not getting it until after I finish one. To me, it's a meaning of great determination, will power, and strength and I don't care what anyone else thinks. That's the only tattoo for me...my friends always try to get me to get a tattoo, but I'm not getting one just for the sake of having one. I have always envisioned my tattoo on the inside of my right ankle, but unfortunately my boss says I can pretty much kiss my job goodbye if I get a tattoo so I guess I will have to get it somewhere else. I still have awhile to figure it all out though.

Dang. Are you a model for ankle bracelets or something?

No, I'm an environmental engineer. Let's just say my boss is extremely old school and does not believe in tattoo's. He says that he couldn't actually fire me over it, but I wouldn't be allowed to see clients, etc. which would not be cool. Oh well, who knows where I'll be when I eventually do an Ironman, I may not be working for the same person by then and will be able to do what I want. I could understand if the tattoo were offensive in some way, but I think an Mdot really says something about a person.

How on earth will your boss know if you get a tattoo on your ankle?? Wear socks, for crying out loud.

I am pretty sure that we will be going to an actual tattoo studio.

Oh, you mean location on my body?!?!  I had always figured the upper shoulder.  That way, it won't show in my normal, clothed everyday life - just when I am swimming, running or cycling...

Tom, you got those designs ready yet?  32 days, you know!

Haven't decided the "where" yet... With all the grief I've given my sister over the years for her tatoos I'm not sure I'm ready for repercussions.

Ugh, guys and their fashion sense.
You can't always wear socks with skirts. Like I said, I'm really not concerned about it at the moment.

LOL, I mistake you for a guy and you mistake me for a guy. Yay for the internet. And, my apologies, I can see where that would cause trouble. Fire your boss. OTOH, you could revive the 80s and wear big scrunchy socks with skirts. *shudder*

I think we are going to Club Tattoo in Tempe. I think it is about 1 mile from the transition area.

If I ever do 140.6 (and the chances are between zero and nil), I'm not going to be coy. I'm getting the mdot tat on my forehead or cheek!

Hey, just thought of something....I'm actually going to be in Tempe to watch IMAZ. Isn't that deserving of an mdot tatoo?
