Is there any interest in a Tri Group for Fairfield or Cypress area? - Or - Is there already a group in place?  I looked up cypress fit, but I am more interested in a Tri-specific group.  It would be nice to touch base with like minded TriGeeks in the neighborhood.  I will be joining Houston Racing in an effort to meet this need as well.  Any input would be helpful...

Hi  I'm interested.  I'm real new to the sport though so don't want to weigh anyone down.  I'm over in Copper Lakes by the Y.  My first tri will be Lonestar 1/4 IM in April.  Using Tri Newbies Intermediate Olympic Program, (sorry BT but I like distance more than time on the free programs).

Have you found anyone else around here?

As you can see, not much reponse. I know there are several triathletes in our area - I have seen several of the USAT stickers driving around.LS 1/4 should be a fun distance. I haven't made a decision yet for that race weekend.

It's Cypress (just northwest of Houston), Fairfield is the large neighborhood in that area.  I see on your post (Rockwall)...that is a good ways from here.

I private messaged you a large list yesterday but there's one I found that wasn't on the list. It looks like it might be in your area. It's south of Houston. Google said 44 miles away but that might be to far for you.

ok.  keep me posted.   it appears many groups meet monthly at a pub or something of the sort.  this might be a great way to start a Cypress / Fairfield tri group.  Maybe get a few of the USAT stickers out of their car....

Houston Racing tri club has several members in the area (including me). I am in Spring near Tomball, and would be interested in group training. I am (likely) doing the half at lonestar and training for IM Cozumel.

My intentions are to join HRTC on Friday and make it to a meeting and see what comes of that.  It would be nice to get some folks together to push each other or bounce training plans and ideas off of.

I had originally planned on doing the HIM at Lonestar, but the logistics of that weekend are just not panning out for me.  I am registering for Buffalo Springs HIM in early Jan.  A much tougher course than Lonestar, but more time to get ready as well.

I hope to see/meet you and others at a HRTC meeting soon.  I'll keep posting udpates to all those who are interested.  Thanks!

A few of us work out at that Y.  Do you swim there?  I am a newbie and will be a sprinter at that.  I did my first Super Sprint today and plan to do a few more sprints this year.

For those of you who live in this area the Bike Barn at hwy 6 and 529 has a weekly Saturday morning ride at 7:30.  The guy told me they usually go 25 miles.  This might not be long enough for you guys but it might give us the opportunity to meet others.  Maybe there are some tri'ers in the regular Saturday group.

There is a group of us that ride in the Cypress and Katy areas. I am training for ICDA right now and have long rides on Saturdays or Sundays. I thinke we rode in the same group a while back.
Keep in touch and see if we can get a few more folks out.

I would be interested in joining if there is one.  I live in Bridgeland out in Cypress next to Blackhorse Ranch.

I have finished various triathlons ranging from Sprint, international and olympic distances.  I just did finished the Houston full marathon this January.  I train by myself on the weekends.  Long ride and run down Fry road.  I too have seen other bikers in the area and folks with USAT stickers, I got mines on my car as well.

I am glad to see more interest in this area.

ALREADY POSTED... but, just in case others are not aware, there is a race posted out our way this summer as well.  Here's the link... thanks to (John) fattyfatfat!

http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1713772&assetId=5ed6dcd5-cf0e-473f-a5f8-8d91088a3063

I swam in Bridgeland lake a few weeks ago.  No one ran me off, the water was cool - kinda shallow and the clarity wasn't bad.  I have heard it through the grapevine that they have a snake problem in the lake as the weather warms up.  It doesn't bother me a whole heck of alot... but I know many folks don't want no part of that.

As far as riding goes... there are some great routes out our way and a group ride is much safer than solo rides.  send me a PM if interested and I can send my cell #.  I will be doing an OWS at 288 lake on Sunday... not sure about a ride yet.

The rides in Katy that Freeswimmingfish and bigjim talk about are great.  Not too far from us and they have some great routes with strong distances!

Kerikadi ~ welcome to the sport!  great supersprint BTW, I read your race report... you'll get the water bottle stuff down...no worries.  Enjoy Silverlake Sunday - a decent spectator friendly race ~ kudos to your 14 Yr old!  Future top dawg in the sport maybe!

I rode with the Copperfield Bike Barn group this morning.  We leaving the BB parking lot right at 7:30 go through back neighborhoods to Queenston then to West, Telge, Longenbough up to Fry, Bridgeland, Coles Crossing etc. 25 miles total.  It's a great group of folks, 3-5 of the guys are fast and I didn't see them past the first mile or so and they actually go a little further.  I felt much safer riding in a group!  After the ride we grabbed a bite at Panera, a very nice morning.

hoov ~ you can start off with a mtn or road if you absolutely have to.  A road bike would be a better choice ~ entry level.  You are looking at $650-1000, depending on brand, components, etc.  Used is always an option, but you have to do your research and be patient.

Good luck and if you have a question about a bike, a brand, a LBS (local bike shop), etc... post it up and you will usually get some great feedback.

OWS at 288 Lake on Sunday (May 24th), a group is meeting there between 8-8:30am.  It looks like we have at least 6 confirmed.  Car pooling is an option, let us know if anyone is interested.  All levels welcome, a wetsuit isn't required - the water temp was comfortable last Sunday.  $7 at the gate.  Picnic tables, changing room for the men (not sure for the ladies).

I'd like to carpool and don't mind driving.  I have a minivan which could also double as a ladies  'changing room'  Smile  Two of the carseats can come out easily so I could bring 4 adults plus myself comfortably.

Jim ~ I am out for Saturday morning. My oldest son is doing a Tri relay that morning (highschool thing in Katy I think).

Keri ~ sounds good for the swim.  I have one other guy I need to see what his plans are, before I commit to the car pool... but I think that will probably work.  I will send ya my cell number.  We will confirm everything before the end of the week.
