Final short Run, Bike and Swim this week then massage on Wed. Heading over on Friday for reg. then to drive the bike course (I will have extra room if anybody wants to tag along to navigate) around 1 PM. Then checking into Hilton by Sea World. Plan to make Carrabas on Sat.

I can probably make Carrabba's...where is it?  (Sorry if I missed a post)

Also, for those of you who have done this race before:  If I check myself in on Friday, about how much time should I allow myself to check in my bike on Saturday?  I will need to put my pedals back on...  I guess with the weather, as it looks now, I am not planning to re-attach my tool bag or Bento Box or anything, just cover the seat with a plastic bag and do everything the next morning.  I'm probably going to have to make myself a checklist as I never sleep the night before a race anyway and then with the time change and knowing I may DNF or be DFL this one (or maybe that will help me sleep the night before?)...I may be kind of dopey and afraid I might forget something race morning!

Good luck to everyone!

It only takes a few minutes to check in your bike. I like to be there waiting when they open for bike check in. Last year and the year before you were limited to a rack but could place your bike in any open space on the rack. So get there early and take the end spot!

I'll be at Carraba's, I'd love to meet the BT's and see the faces behind the screen names (Why do they call you Cube?)  Someone has to promise to keep the bread basket away from me, I tend to binge on carbs when I am under pressure (or happy, or sad, or excited..) I don't want to do 70.3 with an entire loaf of bread in my belly!!  For those of you looking for directions, Cube posted a link a few pages back on this thread.

happymoe, erinmac, and katimomma - see you on the beach!!

Getting close and the dreams are becoming more vivid.  I actually see myself crossing the line but never getting out of the water, weird.  Great info on the shoes, I will bring my last pair as the new ones feel great with good mileage but don't want to trash them.  Tapering going well with a single light workout each day and last one will be Wednesday.  Orlando weather is rain one minute and hot the next, hoping the lightning stays away.

Have Fun Everyone and Safe Travels,

I fly in Wednesday evening. Any suggestions on someplace to do an easy swim Thursday or Friday to get the kinks out?

Also, if bib number is any indication (I'm 185), I'll be in an early wave. This means that 2,400 or so other swimmers are going to be behind me. Where do veterans suggest I position myself to minimize the trampling?

This is a great board, and I appreciate all the helpful postings and shared anxieties!

Good luck to all!

Jim

Hey all, back in the USSR, i mean USA.
Heres a link to my hotel and Carrabas is right in front of it in the parking lot. It says 7888 W. Irlo Bronson Hwy, Kissimmee, FL US 34747 (google for map) Hotel is Comfort Suite Main Gate West.
But its really off 192. just west of Sherberth Rd. If you look at the bike course, once you make your right on Black Lake Rd and it goes into 192, the hotel is just across the street, the bike course goes right past it just after the first aid station.
I believe they open at 5pm and i'll be there at 4:45. Like to eat and get in bed by 7:30-8pm
So glad so many would like to dine.
off for my last long swim today, 30mi easy ride w/ the wife tomorrow.
very excited.
P.S. I picked The Cube as my screen name as its from my football pool, comes from my e-mail address of [email protected]

hey, does any one know what exactly they have at these aid stations?  i know gatorade/water, but do they have gu? food?  i find i handle bars and solid food much better than the gu/shot blocks, but am a bit concerned on if i have to carry all of them on the bike.

Usually they have gels along with water and gatorade Endurance Formula on the bike, and several options on the run.  I just did the California 70.3 and I expect they will have a similar offering.  If you can't take the gels though, I would bring a few bars with you on bike, as I don't recall them being provided.  I think they had bananas on the bike, but I am not 100% on that.  If you look at the Information section of the race, you can get an idea of what they will be serving.

Dont quote me, but I think on the bike last year they only had Gatorade Endurance and bottled water they had reg Gatorade on the run along with:
de-fizzed cola
bananas cut in half
power gels
power bars cut in half.
pretzels
gatorade
water
ice
and cold sponges in a kiddie pool of ice water, ahhhhh (hold on to yours and re-wet as they ran out later in the day)
Plan on bringing your own food for the bike. Things you've eaten in training and like, plsu 2 bottle minium of gatorade/water or your fav sports drink. I bring 4 gels and 2 bars plus 3 20oz bottle of Gatorade/water mix.
Then I enjoy the catering on the run, $ince we all paided for it!!

Sorry for the repost but just found this on the website:
Also, Bike drop off on Sat is very quick, less then 30 mins. Remember, you do have to ride your bike over from the doppy/grumpy parking lot ( about 1.5mi) after that its just walking it inot transision and putting it on your number rack.
anyway heres the aid station info:

Where will the aid stations be and what will be available?
Aid stations are approximately a mile apart on the run and every 10 miles on the bike. Nutrition available can vary between years and races, depending upon who the sponsors are. The general offerings are as follows:

Bike Aid Station
Gatorade Endurance
Water
PowerBar Gel
PowerBar
Bananas

Run Aid Stations
Gatorade Endurance
Water
Cola
PowerBar Gel
Pretzels
Chicken Soup Broth (Fulls Ironmans only, after dark)
Oranges
Bananas
PowerBar

Hope that helps.

Is anyone bringing their young children?  Mine will be there, 4 and 2, and I was wondering, actually the wife was wondering, if they have anything for kids to do?  It is Disney after all.

Is there a place to fill up water bottles when we are setting up our transition area on race day or should I bring my gatorade/sustained energy/foot washing water bottles already filled up?

after reading around i've become a bit concerned about tires/tubes popping due to the heat.  i live in MD now, temps have been around 55-70 recently and i've been riding with my tires pumped to 110 psi (120 is the max).  should i do this down in FL as well or can anyone recommend a psi? i'm relatively new to biking

I would let a bit of air out when the bike sits in transision/the sun all day sat, just to be safe. For the race, I like to run 105-110PSI on the front and 110-115 on the back.

Yes, my 1 and 3 year old will be there with the wife.  I know other people bringing kids too.  I'm usually not a big bring-the-wife-and-kids guy to suffer through this stuff with me, but there are playgrounds and even a petting zoo right in Fort Wilderness if I remember correctly.  They should be able to keep busy and have fun.

I've not done this race before, but in previous events I've been able to leave a small bag or tub under my bike on Saturday as to not have to carry all the junk in on Sunday morning.  On the schedule it says "Bike and gear" check-in but it's not 100% clear what 'gear' means.

Does anyone remember from last year?
