Subject: Timex Ironman HR Monitor - Battery Eater?
I've had a Timex Ironman HR monitor since the spring. I mostly use it as a regular watch, and have only used it in the pool once (I have a cheap, crappy watch that I use in the pool). The battery just died on me for the second time. The dumb thing wasn't cheap - about $100. I could understand if it eats battery when you use the hr strap, but as I said, so far, I don't really use the strap (though I will be soon) - what gives? Has anyone else had the same problems with this watch? I know a lot of people use it and like it.

It's so funny that you bring this up because I've recently been having issues with mine too. It won't read from the HR strap right now and the Indiglo feature doesn't work. I just figured it was low battery on either the watch or the strap and haven't changed it - the regular watch feature and everything else works fine. I've had mine for less than 6 months.

What version do you have? I've used one with the heart rate monitor for about 8 months now with run and/or bike use more or less daily and have changed the battery for the HR strap once and not changed the watch part's battery yet. The GPS battery is good for about 5 hours total, though.

I've been using a 30 lap model for about four years and have replaced the battery in the watch once.  In addition, I have a Bodylink model (don't use it as much) that I've had for about a year and a half without replacing the battery.

I've used Timex HRM as my regular everyday watch for a few years and I figure I change the battery in the watch and the HR strap once a year. I get batteries from a "dollar store" so it's no expense, and it's a simple job to change them.

I have the 100 lap timex with HR strap... I use it for racing and before my garmin used the watch/strap combo all the time,,  I did have to replace the HR strap once but the watch is nearly 3yrs old now and is still going on the original battery.. I use the watch as my swimming watch to count the laps and my everyday watch now that my dress watch has died

Sorry for your problems,,   I think it's a fairly simple switch out on the battery though,, when I need a watch battery changed I just go to one of those little watch kiosk at the mall, since they only charge for the battery not the time changing it .

Thanks, guys. It's the 30 lap HR monitor (no GPS). I don't know, I just feel like having to change the battery twice in less than a year is pretty odd, esp. since I don't use the HR strap very often. My crappy Timex lap watch that I paid $30 for at Target in 2005 has not had the battery die yet. I know it's not a big deal to just change the battery, but it's really irritating nonetheless. It shouldn't be dying all the time...

I may upgrade to a Garmin eventually, but don't have the cash at the moment.
