borsenik9 - 2009-11-04 9:05 PM ....just hoping that if we do swim friday morning that i can get the wetsuit dried before saturday morning
ben

Ben, my thoughts, and they are just mine, is that your wetsuit should be wet Saturday morning.   The theory on a wetsuit is to let water in and trap it next to your body so that your body warms the thin layer of water up and holds the warm water next to your skin to keep you warm as opposed to the current continually flowing new cold water over your skin.  That is the difference in a "wetsuit" and a "drysuit" which is designed to keep the water out.

I keep my wetsuit wet the night before and try to keep it warm.  You want it wet.  YOu just want it wet with warm water.  Otherwise, your body has to warm up the water that goes into the suit when you get in th river.

Sometimes when scuba diving in cold water I have taken warm water in a thermos  jug and poured it into the suit just before getting in the cold water.

Just go striaght over the first bridge to wirghtville and stay on  the right hand lane and then go over the second small bridge and make   a right (300yards down) and you will see a tall white with brown building on the left (blockrunner hotel ) and right across  the street from the hotel parking lot is the little beach. Hope it helps

livestrong, that's right.  I will be waiting at the suburban, in my wetsuit.  it is blueish grey.  again, we will swim across the channel and to the seapath marina where my friend will pick us up.  i have room for three, so it looks like amymengel, browndog, and... rottieguy are you in, i know you have k here with you (from what i've read).  also, where is the bt crowd going to be at the dinner in a couple of hours?
i am going through the bags freaking out even more, trying to get some packed, etc.
also- i will probably do a 15 min bike and 15 min run soon/ right after the swim from the blockade runner hotel parking lot.

Wow this is getting real real!!!  I'm finally here and "settled in" into my hotel room.  So is there non-hotel guest parking at Blockade??  Where should we park Fri am to go for the swim---keep hearing/reading about getting parking tickets, etc.  Also it was mentioned before that some were going for a short bike/run after the swim---anyone still doing this and if so when/where??

skippy, i am at the blockade runner.  i will be in the parking lot by our blueish gray suburban at 7:10.  my friend that is with me from Michigan will drive our warm clothes to the swim finish and we can swim there, towel off and ride back to blockade.  you can park directly across the road by the channel if you want, it is public parking.  after we get back i will probably run up to my room, change and grab my bike and head out for a 10-15 minute bike followed by a 10-15 minute run.  who is officially in for the swim or more?

Definitely in for the swim!!  Might ride/run after (most likely since I'd like to ride with at least one other person since I don't know this area at all...).

Does anyone know if there will be a bike shop set up tomorrow at bike drop off? I got into Myrtle Beach (spending night here) and found out I have a flat on my rear. I have all my tools/pump to change it if need be, but if that is one less thing to worry about tomorrow, it would make life easier

Yeah they should be set to go at packet pick-up (looked like they were today in the early afternoon when I picked-up my stuff anyways!!).  I'm not sure about at T1 (think someone said they were there also last year...)

Yes, it's right in front of the doors you have to go through to get your packet.

My wife and I will be there for the swim.  She isn't racing, but was going to do the swim for fun.  Maybe we can take her SUV to the finish before the swim.

See you guys there.  I'll be the guy in a wetsuit, swim cap, and goggles.

I generally only sleep for about 5-6 hours a night. 3:00 AM is a normal time for me to be up and I'm kinda happy I slept in until 4

Good seeing everyone at the swim this morning.  :-)  Air and water were cold.  I'm using a sleeveless wetsuit and warmed up after swimming about 5 minutes or so.  Cold when getting out of the water.  Feet were numb walking to the car.  I will take time to do a full clothing change and start the bike as dry as possible.
