I am uping my running fitness for a May marathon in preparation for B2B.  Mentally I am marathon training.  After the marathon, I will be 140.6 training.  It is all mind games for me to stay focused.  I will continue to push my long bike rides and swim a little though.  After Silverman I was still working out but I stopped logging and just did what felt good for that day.  Mental rest.

Just curious how everyone is doing?  I seem to be getting the desire to start training for B2B, but don't start officially training til April 11, which will be 30 weeks for the "Be Iron Fit" program.

Of course I'm getting a little ansy since it's a recovery week during my half mary training and I'm trying to enjoy an easy week now and one more before training officially starts so I don't burn out by November.  Being a northerner I'm used to doing a whole bunch of nothing starting in October, this year will be different

Is this thread only for those doing the full B2B? I am signed up for the half but sadly there doesnt seem to be a thread out there for it. It is sort of lonely. I am not even sure if anyone else on this sight is signed up for the half. But reading this thread makes me really want to go all out next year and try the full. It would be my first. Almost everyone I know thinks I am crazy just for doing the half. How wonderfully dimented would they consider me if I signed up for a full Ironman. Wink

Is it possible to be Ironman ready in a year? I have never biked farther than 60miles and I have never been swimming farther than 1.2miles. Also I have only done one marathon in my life. For those of you doing your first Ironman this year how many years have you been tri-ing before you decided to go for the big one?

Welcome to the party. Yes, this thread is for B2B. I don't think it matters if you are in for the Half or Full, more-or-less it is the same course just one is 70.3 and the other is 140.6.

Congrats on signing up for the Half!!!

Almost everyone I know thinks I am crazy just for doing the half. How wonderfully dimented would they consider me if I signed up for a full Ironman.

Your question makes me think of a quote I heard while watching Kona this year……."everyone not training for an IM thinks the training is insane. Everyone training for an IM thinks it is perfectly normal".
I hope it is possible to be IM ready in the second year, because this is my second year and I am signed up for the full at B2B. Last year was my first full year of triathlon, and I finished it up with a HIM. This year I will finish with an IM.
Again, welcome to BT and good luck training for your first HIM!

Rose, I hope this is open to all participants for B2B as I hope to get to meet some other BT'ers regardless of the race there doing or even if there just checking out the event.

I think your training for a HIM will prepare you to answer your IM question after your race on Nov 7.  I found the training for my first HIM last July to be the real chore,  come race day and after my taper madness I enjoyed my race even though we had severe thunderstorms with heavy rains, gusty winds, and even some small hail on the bike and then the sun came out for the run making things a soupy humid mess.  Either way it was a great day and I realized race day was the easy part.  That's when I thought I'd like to give the IM a shot this year.

This is my third season back into tris, I took a little 18 year lay off from them.  I may have waited another year for an IM, but 2009 works out good with the family and our travel plans this year.

Good luck with your training.

Agreed on this is THE B2B thread---doesn't matter if full or half...ALL are welcome!!

I'm feeling ready to begin a training plan for this too....of course I'm also ready for it to warm up!!!  It seems like Nov is so far off yet it can't come soon enough (and I'm sure it will get here faster then wanted if training doesn't go as planned).

Hello all, I just joind the party this weekend by signing up and have started training.  This will be my second full. I did IM Florida last November.  I am doing the Augusta HIM this September because it is home which makes it very convenient.  Looking forward to the training and the excitment of it all again.

Just curious how everyone is doing and if anyone is actually training for B2B yet?

This past Saturday was 30 weeks out from race day and I started the Be Iron Fit program Easter Sunday, which was a rest day and worked out well since I was at work anyways.

Hoping everyone's training goes well and stays injury free.

Race fees paid and reservation deposit are in for our rental duplex in Wilmington.  If anyone is looking for a place to stay there's the downstairs unit of the duplex were using for around $500 for the week and just outside downtown Wilmington (near the corner of  Front and Ann St)

I was looking through the B2B site and found the following note added:

New for 2009! Organizers will also offer bus shuttle services into downtown following the event to ease congestion on the water taxis. .

That alleviates one of the main concerns I had about the 2008 race after reading about 2 hour waits for the water taxis, which would be a giant PIA after finishing a half or full distance race.

Yeah I saw that on the site also....  Set-up is a good company and I figured they would address something like that (seemed like it was the "big/universal" complaint about the race---and easily enough addressed by adding the buses.....)

This will be my first Iron. I volunteered at this race in 2008 and was very impressed with how it was done.

This week my training group, The TriDads, decided to end the summer with another group race (we're training for Gulf Coast), and picked B2B.

During sign up I got the unexplainable urge to sign up for the full...SO I DID! Never done one.

Because I'll be bringing my family, can anyone who's done this race tell me the best area to stay so that the finish area is convienient for my wife and little kids (though I'm not sure they'll be AWAKE when I cross the line).

There's links on the B2B site for lodging and one of the hotels looks to be right across the river near where the water taxi docks.

well i'm about 95% sure i'm gonna sign up for the 1/2 as my first HIM.    this is just my second year and all i've done is 2 sprints and 4 Oly's.   i had planned on waiting till next year for my first HIM, but i've just about talked myself into it for this year.   after Alcatraz in June, i don't have anything scheduled so i'd have plenty of time to train.   just gotta get the nerve to pull the trigger.

Pull the trigger, that will build the nerve. You can do it, and this would be a perfect course for your first half.
