Subject: Helmet Suggestions?

If I were looking on-line at a helmet - what would you recommend?  I have a LG helmet now and the thing that bothers me (other than there's not enough vents) is that it's very "wide" and doesn't sit low enough on my head.

I figured now is a good time since most of the 08 stuff seems to be on sale.

Obviously since I have a new bike my current helmet is also the wrong colour.  So I need something that comes in Royal Blue or Silver (preferably both).

Thanks so much!

Stef

Have you tried bell helmets, I had the same problem and they worked for me. All of us have slightly different head shapes, I cannot wear LG , Giro,or specialized for the same reason as you. Bell may not be the most popular, however they offer a totaly different fit. Go to a Local Bike shop to try some in front of a mirror.

I had a hard time shopping helmets, too. I tried many different styles on...bought one (a Bell Sweep) online and ended up returning it...just didn't sit right on my head. Ultimately, I ended up with a Giro Atmos and I love it. Very well-vented and fits my head perfectly. But like the other poster pointed out, everyone has a different shaped head...so you'll probably have to go through a bit of trial & error with a few helmets before you find the perfect one for you.

ETA - I also own a Giro Kaya helmet, but found that the "one size fits all" sizing on that helmet just did not work for me. I needed a larger range of sizing, hence the reason I opted for the Atmos. Needless to say, I have a Giro Kaya that sits unused because it doesn't fit my head.

I was looking for a new helmet myself last year. I had used Giro and Bell helmets in the past. I was not that happy with fit of the Giro and the Bell suspension system started coming apart after only a couple of years.

My LBS shop had a LAZER Gensis helmet in stock and when I tried it, I found that it fit better then and any helmet I have ever tried. The adjustment knob is on the top of the helmet so it can be adjusted easily while wearing it. It worked great for me, just put the helmet on with the adjustment opened up and then tightened it to fit.

I wouldn't hurt to check out rudyproject. I got an email the other day about a special. You buy a pair of glasses for like $175 and you get a helmet, shirt, socks, tri-bag and some other stuff "Free". I have no idea how they fit though. I think they are pretty good though.

Why, if you have a helmet that doesn't fit comfortably, are you looking to buy one online? Get on down to the LBS and try a few on. You might even find an LBS that has "the 08 stuff ...on sale."

I agree with the LBS route.  Gotta make sure that thing fits right since it's gonna be on your dome for a while.
