A new thread to address items accidentally showing up in the weight thread!

I weighed in this morning at 272, which is a little bit of a gain, but I managed to fit into a pair of jeans that I haven't worn in 5 years. Plus I just got a trainer for my bike to ride at night, and the Garmin 305 with cadence so let the training start.

I was thinking about doing the Las Palomas tri in Rocky Point, but the web site says it is on the 3rd of May. Packet pick up on friday the 1st.

I know that TJ said something about doing this one too. If someone is interested maybe we can carpool down, unless your flying.

I am doing it.  So is Krista (kmanus).  The plan is to drive.  I am still in denial of this race BTW.

I just went to the website http://www.redrockco.com/las-palomas-triatlon-0  and it is showing the race on April 18, 2009.  My inlaws are coming down from Montana as a vacation so we are driving from here but my car will obviously be full.  Hopefully by then I have actually met some of you so we could celebrate after the finish.

Which race are you doing? The Red Rock event is April 18th this year. I'm still on the fence for this race just due to job conflict. This is a fun race!!!

I think there was talk at some point of making this an official ESCKTC club race...was I HIGH on something or am I remembering right?

Although the date of this tri rarely works out for me. So I cannot commit. BUMMER looks like so much fun...

OKAY, Warning stupid question ahead: I would have to get a passport to be able to go and do this right?

I've never been across the border and never had a passport, which from what I understand is quite the proccess.

I did this race last year and am for sure going back for the 2009.

THey  do packet pickup a few days in advance here in the USA (last year it was between Landis and sole running stores in Tempe) but then they also have a packet pickup there at the race site morning of.

Micah and SteveO are regulars to this tri and I know Travisty was there last year as well.  I think the free beer at the finnish influenced them to attend.

All that said I think we should make this the oficial Cool Kids International event of the year.  Then we can still have MountainMan or something be the National event of the year.

This race was an awesome time last year! A fun relaxed weekend with racing, and yes free beer is a huge influence.

I did this last year as my first tri.  Great time for a first timer.  The date is April 18th, which puts it about in the middle/end of spring break I think.  There is packet pickup on Friday at the resort.  Resort is beautiful.  Beer is plentiful.

We did not need a passport last year, and I don't recall when the change goes into/went into effect to need one.  If you are going and don't want a passport, you can get a passport card for $35(?) that allows you foot/vehicle entry into Mexico & Canada.  YOU CAN NOT FLY WITH IT.  FYI.

Oh and the most common date conflict I think people had with this race is the Pat Tillman run here in Tempe was/is the same day.

The race inforamation states that you do not need a passport to drive. But still the process for a passport isn't difficult. I got mine last year in about 2 weeks when I went to Cancun.

Thanks everyone for the date of this race. Now I can request a couple of days off from work.

I vote that this become a Club Race. It isn't far away and its a large event (So I've heard). And of course free beer is a huge plus for us right?

I think Red Rock said they went through 18 kegs last year at the post party.  Not great beer, but free beer at least.

I haven't done this race before but I will be doing this race for sure.  I will be riding with someone else so not sure if we have a car full yet or not.  I will let everyone know as we get closer to April.

I was in Rocky Point last November and according to the mean looking gate gaurd at the border, the rule is that at the beginning of 2009, passports will be required for re-entry.   So I guess that's the latest rumor.   Getting a passport is not too hard.  Copy of your birth certificate, form from the post office, pay some money (of course).    They say it takes up to 2 months to process and for some more money they will expedite it in 3 weeks.  I got mine in 2 1/2 weeks without the expedite fee.

I just spoke with a customer that has a house in Rocky Point 2 miles away from the resort. They are offering to give the team a discount if we want to rent it for the weekend of the race.

You can view the house at http://www.vacationsfrbo.com/details.php?property_id=14785&location=search&world_zone_id=4&state_id=3&region_id=0&city_id=1#next

It is a three bedroom 3 bath house and I think it should hold the team if allot of us go.
