I might wanna do this.....although 16 miles on the mtb will probably be tough!!  Oh well!  The LUNA Chix sent an email about this too....seems like I almost did it last year but had a conflict of some sort.

I also have to say that the proceeds all go to a great cause....Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center....I took a young man there for horse riding a zillion years ago (well in the late 80s/ early 90s).  He had been in a wheelchair his whole life, and found freedom riding on a horse.  It was awesome, and fun to see their website and see how their organization has grown.

Do you need a mountain bike? Would a hybrid commuter work?

Russ-you might email the organizers and check that out.  I am assuming the trails will be muddy but I don't know how steep or otherwise challenging....hopefully not very!

Okay, I emailed the RD and he replied very quickly with this answer:

"A cross bike would be fine. A few of them were out last year. The toughest parts are the climb up from the Sammamish Trail on that first stretch of the PowerLine Trail (it's steep, but not that technical, other than the "drainage boards" you have to kind of wheelie over on the climb), and then the parts of the upper Bear Creek / Tuscany neighborhood, but even that isn't so bad. Just muddy in places. Plus, on that stretch, if it's too muddy, it's easy to jump out onto one of the Tuscany cul-de-sacs and make your way down to the entrance where the trails come out for the rest of the ride."

Hope that helps anyone considering doing this.

I'm doing it. I'll be the tall guy with a crappy hybrid/cross style bike. It's blue. :-)

It looks like I will be there too....probably hanging with Lynne and some others.  I have an old Giant gray mtb....odds are hair in pigtails and depending on weather I will most likely be wearing black.  Look for one or two LUNA Chix....I may be near them, too, or even wearing LUNA gear if some arrives in time.

See you!

Here's a description of the ride from my friend Vinette who did it last year.  She can't do it this year....but she says this:

It's a fun ride.  Last year, there were only about five women in the whole ride.  When you leave Redhook, on the trail briefly you cross the road and then go straight up, I mean straight up the pipeline hill. Most of the folks pushed their bikes up that hill.  From there it is up and down, through trails into Redmond behind housing developments and then back up the pipeline road. You need a mountain bike definitely to do this ride.  Because of the snow and rain the trails will be muddy and you may not get traction on some of them and have to push a bit. All in all, it was fun. You get a free ticket to have a beer at Redhook at the end.  Last year we got large bath towels that said Stinky Spoke on them, very nice.
