2009 Assault on Mt Mitchell

Passcodes have been mailed out, registration Feb 6.

Gotta be someone else on here who's riding.

Registered yesterday when it opened ? Anyone else up for a torture session ?

This....seems horrible, demented, and crazy.  But I am truly interested.

Not sure if registarton is still open for the Mitchell... Marion registration ( the 75 miler/5000 ft of climbing ) opens soon, if not already.

Hope you do one of these... hopefully I'll get to do at least some of the training rides.

In the continuing saga of responding mostly to my own thread...lol...... ride completed on Monday... wow , what a ride for the ages..... if you're into climbing , you MUST do this ride..... hardest thing I've ever done in my entire life... nothing else even close.

In a demented sort of way, THAT WAS FUN. More details in training log.

More of you need to do this next year..... it will be the 35th Assault and the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

9 hrs ride time, 11 hrs total time...... involved in a hard wreck about 30 miles out (performed "repair") , got "held up" at Parkway for awhile, and just wanted to really take it ez and be sure of a finish.

Maybe next time ride this thing for a finish time and come in @ 7- 8 hrs.... no fear of hills anymore, that's for sure.

what was the temperature? just wondering cuz you are wearing long pants and a jacket

Temp was 47 deg in Spartanburg @ 6:30 am start time. (28 deg on summit @ start) The temp on summit when I finished was around 45-50 max. Before I got off summit (helped load bikes for awhile) it was already in the 30's.

What a blessing for me with the low temps.... If I have to choose one extreme over another I'll take 40-50 deg cycling for 9-11 hrs ANY DAY over 90 deg. (Last year I understand temps were mid 90's+... yikes)
