I am back in the pool after trying to train and run marathon. ITB issues shot that plan down, but I digress. I am back in the pool, and swimming three days a week. The days that work best for me is the same time there is a Masters swim in the pool. Not a huge deal, as they are supposed to leave two lanes open. The past two swims they have asked if I want to swim with them. There is no on-deck coach, and other than not having to remember my own workouts, I don't really see an advantage. On the other hand, I don't want to seem rude or standoffish. So, what say you, swim with the group, or just next to them?

Do what is most comfortable for YOU, not them.

Saying something like, "I appreciate the invite and would will take you up on it in the future.  Right now, I'm just not ready for it."

nothng wrong with this at all!

I'm slow on the swim, so if it was me, i would swim with a group. Everyone would pass me and I would be as slow as a slowest turtle. But it would give me a push to try harder. I would probably start asking people for tips.

But at the same time i don't see anything wrong with kindly declining the offer.

This is what I did.  I had one 10 minute coaching session with the leader of the group and she was able to give me several tips that improved my swimming immediately.  Now I just need to build up the endurance to finish their workout.

Swimming with other people helps push me more than if I am swimming by myself. Give it a try.  If you don't like it, you can go back to doing it by yourself.
