Comments: I ahd this idea to try and place in my age group leading up to this race, classic rookie mistake. Instead of focusing in on myself, I focused on last years results and tried to place. Jsut stupid, lesson learned. started out at 7:20 pace or so, and felt great to mile 5-6. At mile 7 I knew I had made a big mistake and realized the 2nd half of the race was going to be terrible. Starting pouring, bad. Spirits were down, was very wet and upset at myself. Got ot he point were I was doing 10:00 miles and I just tried to keep moving. Kept my pace around 9-9:45 for the last few miles and when I saw the finish line I was so excited. To make matters worse, if I had just paced myself I would have placed as 3rd in my AG was 1:44:55. an 8:01 pace that I know, from experience, I could have done for 13.1. Oh well, live and learn. What would you do differently?: pace myself better based on me, not the field. Post race
Warm down: ate some begals, fluids and waiting for the raffles, as this race had some great prizes...flat screen TV, Ipods, laptops...I actually won a ipod shuffle! What limited your ability to perform faster: going out WAY too fast. leson learned. Should have just paces myself and I would have hit my goal of placing. Event comments: great race--raffle prizes were just over the top...!!! Last updated: 2009-01-16 12:00 AM
