Subject: New bike P2C from LBS or used?
I'm in a dilemma...my wife has given me the OK to purchase a Cervelo P2C.

Do I search for a used model and pay the higher price tag at the local bike shop?

Some of the advantages to the LBS purchase is they have a crash protection plan and maintenance/tune-ups for five years.

I just don't want to regret not saving $800 purchasing used on e-bay or here on BT.

Anyway run into a similar dilemma? Any advice would be appreciated...

Purchasing new from a LBS usually includes a fit, which can't be overlooked when buying a bike, new or used.  So, factor the cost of the fit into the savings from new vs. used, probably about $150-200 depending on the LBS.

I just bought a 2008 P2C from a LBS and it included a fit (its an ongoing process) and a tune-up after 150 miles.  I bought the 5 year, no-limit service package for $70 more.

I would go to the local bike shop. They will fit you, and if they still have old stock you might be able to talk them down. Who knows even if they have to order the bike you might be able to talk them down. I just ordered a new Felt B12, and got a heck of a deal from my LBS.

With bicycles over $2k, I think most shops are willing to deal at this time of year. Plus with the down turn in the economy bikes won't be flying off the shelves. Like you also said, you get the crash protection, and tune-ups. You never know what they will say. I went in trying to find something with carbon in the back in a tri bike. The choices were Trek, or Felt. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

unfortunately with cervelo the lbs can not drop the price any lower then what cervelo allows. however, if you want to get a set of race wheels or something else let the lbs know and they could give you a great deal on the other products.

I'd say the fit and cost of a "fit" will help decide. If you've ridden road bikes awhile, or especially tribikes, and can dial in your own fit more or less, you could probably get away with Ebay. But, if you're a newbie like I was, having an LBS bike fit was critical. They dropped my stem, swapped out the aerobars (no cost), and moved the seat around - took 90 minutes total. My bike fits really well now, and I've had no problems with saddle, long rides, etc. I'd definitely go LBS again for a $$$$ bike like Cervelo if dialing in a fit is really important.

I now however, would definitely try out ebay "deals" for cheaper bikes (<$1000 on my budget) and have some fun messing around with the fit!

You may want to see if they have any 2008s in stock. I have seen some REALLY low priced new ones. Almost the same price as a used one on Ebay.

Bike store can sell last years models at whatever price they want.

Go new.  Cervelo only honors the warranty on their frames to the original owner.  Additionally, the obvious suck economy is a bonus for you.  As others have stated Cervelo does not allow their dealers to deviate on price, but I would tell you to call around.  I can guarantee a dealer will "cut" you a deal below MSRP.
