Two things to consider.. mountain biking at his time of year if the outside temperature above 32 degrees does a number on the trails due to the freeze/thaw cycle. It is very detrimental and causes a lot of damage that requires work to fix.

the other is Schaeffer Farms are closed for this very reason, freeze/thaw w/ high temps

hmm, I called their hotline this morning and it says they are open due to the cold temp's.   Mabybe will just ride on the towpath, at least it's off road...

not sure if you all went Mt Biking. When Butch and I were in Southern VA on the 17th for the Adventure Race, our bikes locked up, we didn't have breaks because they froze! and the trails FROZEN.... dont get me wrong we LOVE to Mt Bike...but I wont be doing it again until it warms up a LOT.

Nice!

Well this weekends race should be interesting.  They are calling for crappy wet/snow/sleet all week and current race temp is supposed to be high of 32.  They said race will go on no matter what conditions.

Dale, have you spent any time in the saddle of your mtn bike?  I just finished my long run, and am supposed to run a spin class tonight, but I really need to ride it.  Maybe just a couple of miles!

LOL, probably ridden 20 miles in 5 years on it, and 13 of those were a few weeks ago with slake and shelly.  Before then I rode it all the time.

What are you doing to prepare for Snotcycle?  clothing, tire pressure, etc?

Just going to bundle up, wear neoprene shoe covers, hope that all the mud created by the snow/rain/sleet over the last few days freezes up by then or it should be interesting trying to ride 23 miles in the muck.

Mtn bike tires (at least the cheapie ones I own) list tire pressures for riding on the road and for offroad.

Yep it was Saturday.

I had a blast.  Not every day you get to do a race on snow and ice.  They seem to have gotten more snow in Leesburg as the ground was still completely covered.  There were ice patches all over the place.  I saw quite a few people wreck into the woods from hitting ice patches.  Would have been a great day for studs.  I went with the safe and slow method to keep my bike upright.

Real fun track, I would love go go back on a nice warm dry day and see how much faster I could do a lap in.

Nice finish, I would've like to have done it. I did the Super Bowl ride near h'burg on sunday, and still got a load of grief from the boss for being gone all day for that ride. No way I could've strung two rides together this weekend :-(

I felt like a 14 year old punk on my BMX bike, until my seat post started slipping and my 39.9 year old back started aching.  Had to get off twice to reset my seat height, but luckily, on my bike, that is achieved with a quick clip!

I rode with you a bunch of times now that you told me which bike you were on.  I basically just hung with whoever was in front of me unless I went off track or the person in front of me crashed.

I am just hoping that they didn't have the same rules about no bad words that tri's do.  I'm not prone to profanity, but there was a pretty consistent stream coming from my mouth.  Like __ing tree, holy ____ im going too fast, ___that was slippery, my ___ing seat wont stay up, etc...
