Subject: Tofu???
I just discovered that tofu is not as hideous or gross as I always thought it was...in fact, it can actually be pretty yummy! I was wondering if anyone has any good recepies or ways of cooking tofu.

Thanks!

yep, there is such a thing...

They are called Tofutti Cuttie . They taste really good... but, sometimes they are difficult to find in the stores.

Ya' got to try them... BTW, if my memory is correct... they contain lots of sugar...

I've found that frying tofu in some olive or canola oil improves its taste and texture a lot. I don't do the cooking in my house (unless its prepackaged, I'm not allowed to waste food by trying to cook it) but my SO makes a very tasty thing with tomatoes, lemon grass, chili jam, onions, peppers, fresh veggies of your choice (I like broccoli, cauliflower, and snow peas) and fried tofu. It's pretty easy from the looks of it. Comes out pseudo-Thai, and extremely tasty.

I heard that the Lou just got a Trader Joe's - go there & get the Thai Baked Tofu. Pre-flavored, very firm. Really simple lunch - slice the tofu like cheese/meat and put it in a freshly toasted whole wheat pita.

Stir fry... cut into cubes & mix w/your fave sauce & veggies.

Mix w/scrambled eggs & spinach.

I also really like tofu fried in olive oil! I drain the block, press some of the excess water out, cut it into slices about 2 inches long and a quarter inch thick, and fry on both sides until golden brown. Then I mix the slices into stir fry with bok choy and mushrooms. I LOVE it!!! I also like a healthy version of cream of broccoli soup -- steam some broccoli, throw it into a blender with chicken broth and a block of silken tofu (Mori-Nu is the brand available here, it's usually in the produce aisle) and blend until smooth.
