Subject: upgrading wheel set
I am looking at getting a new wheelset somewhere around june or july i think. I have an 07 specialized elite double allez that was just fist fitted and equipped with t2+ aeros and a new aero PD seat.

I currently have Alexrims S500 wheelset, but as far as i can tell they aren't great. theyre not horrible but i know i could definitely upgrade my wheelset.
not looking to spend more than 300 or so. Yes i know thats basically crap too, but its what i can afford.
Thanks!

Why not just save your money and put it into a new bike fund. Upgrading your first bike often ends up spending lots of money that could be used on a new bike.

Unless you are having trouble with your wheels (i.e. going out of true/round, blowing spokes, not spinning well) IMO you have little if anything to gain by spending $300 on a new set of wheels.

I have the Easton EA50 SL wheels and I really them.  I weigh 180 lbs and hammer them on some fairly rough roads.  So far over the last year no problems.  I bought them through REI.com and used my 25% off coupon ($375 * .25 = $281).  If you're a REI member you might want to wait for a coupon and go that route.

I hear mixed reviews on the Neuvation wheels.  Apparently the customer service HAS to be great since the hubs break so often . . .

I too am surprised with the number of folks upgrading their wheels when nothing is wrong with their current set. Sure, they help you go a LITTLE faster on flats and downhills, but in most cases, that $500-$1000 is probably better spent on other tri-related things, included swim coaching or race entries.

I stated i wanted to spend 300. that is not 500-1000.

Regardless- I have decided after talking with some others to just forgo this for now and wait till i buy a new bike next spring. thanks to everyone for their input, it is appreciated.

I had some Neuvation M-28 Aeros that cost about $300. I liked them a lot, and never had any trouble with the hub or anything else. I upgraded from some pretty crappy Bontrager wheels that came on my Lemond. I thought it was a good upgrade, but it's all relative.

Spend a hundred bucks and buy a disc cover...that will save you some time.

that is precisely what i did. In the end it just didn't make any sense to spend even 300 on new wheels.

I'm just looking to get a good beginner wheel set and spend around $300, I don't mind used wheels either.  What would you guys recommend?  I have 2006 Specialized Transition Expert, http://www.togoparts.com/items/view_item.php?iid=5091&did=0&cid=207&bid=324.

Thanks for the help
