Depends on who shows up to what race, and what age group you are in. It's not like Boston Marathon where there are set times.

Go to ironman.com, find the results page, and see who made it in your age group.  That will give you a good idea of what is generally required.

Thanks. I figured it was not that simple since I could not find an actual qualifying time.

All of the above is correct.  But in GENERAL, HIM slots for Clearwater will need about a 4:45 and Kona slots below 10 hrs.

These times are for the 'pointy end of the field'.  Ie Male 30 - 45.

The time that Dan will get at IMKY... can you feel the pressure?

Where? in US races? Wink

Here in Europe, you need much better times for 35 years old or around that. I would say...9h15 and 4h30

which convinced me that Hawaii qual is not for me while Florida is achievable

A number of times I've read about people who are trying to qualify for Kona, picking races where they perceived a "softer" level of competition. Whether it's a less popular race, or perhaps a course that plays to their particular strengths, some people will travel for a race where they hope to have a better chance of qualifying. You can't just look for slower times though, without considering the course difficulty.

Yeah, in Florida in the more competitive AG's you need sub 9:30 to get a slot but it's super fast course. AZ this year was probably not a good example as the race conditions were so different with April being much harder than Nov. IMAZ in Nov though is now proving to be a sub 9:50 race to get a slot in 30-45M, 9:30 just to be safe.

European races are fast BUT the slots do roll down due to high travel costs. IMNZ is another race with great, fast athletes but a lot of roll down.

arent there 70.3 races that have a 5:30 qualifying time for 70.3 world championships?

4:45 is really fast

I was hoping to take my ironfitness, train speed this season and in August try to qualify at the Calgary 70.3

We have hills here in America, KQ times are different

Yes, the 5000 feet of climbing at IM France is pancake flat.

or maybe the 4500 of IM Switzerland?

What about the 70.3 in Germany, France, Switzerland ?

I would say that if you want a flat bike course here in Europe at Mdot official race, you have few choices...

I see the "hilly" races in US much easier than what we have here.

What it is really though there is that some events are in extreme weather conditions which is never the case here.
