Subject: Do you tip the bike fitter guy????
I finally got some clip-on aero bars for my road bike and am going to get refitted tomorrow. I started thinking about whether or not I should tip the guy that fits me? I mean, he's performing a service, so my thought is that I should tip him.

I guess my questions are: A) Do you think he should get a tip and B)If the answer to "A" is "yes," then if the fitting costs around $75, what do you think would be a good tip??

Thanks!
Aimee

Hmm... I've never thought about it.

then again, when all was said and done the fit was $318, so I really couldn't add another 20% to that!

I wouldn't tip. If you like the fit I would be loyal to that bike shop and try to purchase any gear you need from them.

My fit guy owns the bike shop and makes plenty off me so I don't tip.

If he was an employee I might give him something like a gift card to local coffee place, bring in donuts or something like that not give him money. I'd only do that if he went above what was expected to help me.

I like the way you think.

Cookies and similar treats are always appreciated. And of course beer is a bike shop favorite.

LOL.  Yep, it's often a bunch of guys.  Food and beer if you're doing anything.  But really, just buying your stuff from them (and referring them business) is often the loyalty they're looking for.

I occasionally leave a 6 pack of the mechanic's favorite beer.  But if you haven't developed a relationship with the shop guys I would not worry about tipping or leaving a gift just yet.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I won't be tipping the fitter.

Stopping at a bakery before dropping the bike off usually guarantees a timely tune-up.
