Just wanted to share....

One of my co-workers is a three time Olympian (84, 88, 92 – 2 silver, 1 bronze) and national level coach. Last week we went for a lunch time swim. Now realize that I’ve never swam competitively, have only been swimming for about two years, and I’m largely self taught. But he wanted to go swimming with me because, in his words, “I motivate him to get back into shape”.

I made sure to tell him that he was not there to coach, just to have fun and get some exercise. It was a great experience. We just did some easy laps, some simple drills, and some sprints. He gave me a couple of tips and suggestions but seemed impressed with my stroke overall. Needless to say, I was thrilled!

It was an experience I won’t easily forget. Until next week that is, when we do it again.

If a US swimmer made 3 olympic teams, he/she more than likely won a gold medal, especially as part of a relay.

Since your in Canada, I'm going to guess a member of the 4x100 medley relays...

Hope you had a good time!

My guess is Tom Ponting (Canadian, 2 silvers ('84 and '88 4x100 medley relay), 1 bronze ('92 4x100 medley relay)

ETA: Forgot to mention that is is very cool that you get to swim with an Olympian and very cool that he said that you inspired him!

I'm with you on Ponting....at least by the numbers!!  Always fun to swim with/see an Olympian swim---even out of shape they make it look soooooo easy!

I got to swim with some 70 year old guy in a banana hammock today that did approximately 15 minute hundreds.

Wanna trade next week?  :-)
