Subject: RE: August 2nd, Bethel Maine Tri I've done the race twice (2005 and 2007). The swim is in a fairly small and shallow pond, and at that point in the summer it's usually warmed up to the point that you could get away without a wetsuit (probably low 70's). Most people still wear them, but it's not a necessity like it would be in May or June. The bike is pretty flat by New England standards. No real hills, just some mild upgrade sections. The run is mostly off-road, so be prepared for that. It's a pretty low-key event which runs relatively well for a small race. The logistics are a little weird. The swim start and T1 are several miles away from T2 and the finish, so you have to set up your running gear at the rack in T2, then head over to T1 with your swim and bike gear. At the end of the race you have to head back over to T1 to get your wetsuit or other swim gear. Not a big deal, just a little different. I enjoyed the race both times I did it, and will likely do it again this year.
