Robot and I had this discussion - we think that the point is for people to log for calorie (and macronutrient) sake. It's all about LEARNING for some. But there is a benefit to JUST logging food so I see the point there. BUT it is a CHALLENGE. I think everyone should have to use BT's nutrition logging, its only 30 days. I know many people use fitday and other logging sites (I use formulazone) so I too will be doing double duty. But for those who don't use other sites its a good habit to get into, so (like the bike thread) we should all be doing the same thing.

????

Okay, okay. I'll use the BT log. Jeez. JK

I decided to go ahead a try the BT nutrition log. What a pain in the butt. That will keep me from eating anything. What a pain but I guess now a lot of my foods are in there on the frequency part.

I decided to track today. How embarrassing. Don't anyone look at what I ate today. I had been putting it on paper but when I logged it in to BT I ended up with

2593 calories
313.91g carbs
91.19g protein
106.75g fats

Holy #(*&$(#*&$! I ate a lot of calories today. Now I feel like a pig. Okay this Nutrition challenge starts on Friday right?

Wow the little things really add up. For the most part I ate healthy but but 6T of peanut butter, okay and 3 dulce de leche and 4 thin mint cookies, oh yeah and the 2 mini candy bars. Wow, what an eye opener.

I'm not sure what my nutritional needs are. I've been on WW for so long. Okay, so I have not been following lately and still need to lose 25 lbs (maybe 30).

How do I find out what I should be doing? Let's not use today as a guideline.

Great job!!! I found it really interesting to see exactly "what" I was eating. It is hard to realize the nutritional value of things until I logged it. Have you used the search feature for foods? I found people had already entered a lot of the foods I ate and I could just add those to my meal.

Josh-yes I used that feature but even still I eat a big variety so even scrolling through took a while. But it was an eye opener for sure.

Fridays are my start days for each new week so I will join you on the challenge and post and see what this tells me. It will be interesting. I have my annual appointment with the doctor on March 20th so the timing is perfect. I know this isn't a challenge to lose but I know if I track I lose. Add this with the bike challenge and I at least hope I lose something. ANYTHING would be good. I keep bouncing around the same 5 lbs and I need to lose about 25-30. Hmm, can I lose 30 in 30 days. Hey they do it on the Biggest Loser show. JK.

Jill, maybe you can help me figure it out. I get overwhelmed with all the info on the nutrition thingy on this site.

Although I thought if I eat the same thing every day .. that would make it easy, no?

http://www.dmafitness.com/samp_nutrition.htm

That has the DASH guidelines, which is a pretty decent diet for reducing hypertension. It gives a sample 2,000 kcal diet, an ok food guide (pretty basic), gives you some discretionary calories (*cough*thinmints!*cough*), and a base calorie guide for various fitness levels.

Are you implying I have high blood pressure ... cause maybe I'm old? Huh? Are ya?

I will give it a look. Although I don't need the lowering of the blood pressures as they sit very comfortably at 80/60 (no I am not dead). I would hope it would offer me enough discretionary calories to consume my Coca Cola ... I cannot live without that on a daily basis. I would die without that. Really. It's my diet downfall.

No, but gurlz are naturally high strung.... :D

Mostly I use it as a reference for people so that they can see what constitutes serving sizes, a basic recommendation for amounts/week, etc.

As far as the coke, a 12 oz can is 155 calories. 1 a day is about an extra 1/3 lb worth of empty calories / week. But,  you look like you're in the 19-30 age range on the chart, and active, so that puts you at the 2400 kcal daily level (All values approx). That diet has 362 discretionary calories, so you're good for about 2 1/3 cans of coke per day. Slurp away!

I am going to be out of town with no computer for two days of the challenge....how will that work?  I have to put failed?  Wah! ;>

I need to make sure I am shooting for the right number of calories.   Anyone know a good way to determine that?  My last guestimate came from the gym trainer.
