Subject: Garmin 305 - HR monitor battery replaced - HR crazy

I replaced my battery (which was dead after a period of non-use)...

My HR is reaching 200+ at times per the watch which can't be right.

This isn't the same high readings I've had previously due to poor skin connection or interference with occasional environmental things.

Does this need to be recalibrated or similar?  My HR Max on a long up hill sprint maxes in the low 190's but at present I am running 9 min miles with HR 170-205...

Thanks in advance

I wonder why that's happening. The only things I could suggest:

1) Factory reset the unit

2) How old is the watch, I wonder if the battery in the strap is tired

3) Check that your watch has the latest software (doubt this will help but you never know)

Also, last thing is do you know anyone with a known working strap you could try to see if it's the watch or the strap.

Depending on the material of your jersey, static electricity can mess up the signals.  It took me about two years to find this out.  Take note of what you are wearing and whether it is wet or damp from sweat next time it malfunctions.  I think you may find a static electricity issue is the culprit.
