Subject: Recovery drinks - whole foods, no supplements

Most of the recovery drink recipes I've seen discussed at BT have supplements in them and I want to stay away from supplements. I don't want to debate the pros/cons of supplements, just want alternatives to them.

What constitutes a recovery drink? Do you have whole foods recipes for a recovery drink?

Thanks for your help.

I also like to use natural ingredients on my recovery drinks. I read on the Internet that as we age our blood and fluids become acidic (this is acentuated in athletes). As a result our body release minerals to balance the PH in our body. That is how we loose calcium and muscle.
What do we need in a recovery drink?
1.- Complex carbs
2.- Glucose as a quick source of energy
3.- Protein to replace what we used in our workout
4.- Sodium and electrolytes.

I often use orange, pineapple, or apple juice. I combine it with bananas and berries. Sometimes I add carrots. I like to add protein powder (from eggs or whey) or soy milk and a pinch of salt. Plenty ice... yummi....
My favorite combinations are Orange-carrots-berries, pinneaple-greenapple-berries, and the traditional Orange-bananas-berries.
Have fun mixing and matching

A recovery drink is just a smoothie with protein? Easy enough.
