Has anyone ever done this? Or has anyone ever been on the receiving end of this?

Who did you ship with?

I am buying a used bike from someone in the US and they are getting insane quotes from shipping company`s and I never thought it would be that expensive(240USD, FedEx). From OHIO to PEI, Canada.

Larger items need to go UPS. It's pricey and takes forever, but it's actually cheaper than USPS and FED EX. I've sent Wheels and other larger items and was told by the post office that they really specialize in smaller packages and they leave the parcels up to the other shippers, like UPS... Plus you can track things, big benefit if you're curious as to where in the world something is.

but does 200USD for shipping sound normal? Plus all the fee`s i`ll end up paying when I get the darn thing considering the high value of the item and then their normal insane brokerage fee`s and all that nonsense??

Javelin shipped from Illinois to Ontario by UPS for only $60 but the brokerage fees made the total around $160. I arranged delivery to my LBS since they did the build.

I find customs are a killer for cycling stuff if it gets hung up at the border; sometimes it sails under the radar, but other times I've paid more in chages than what the product was worth, it seemed.
