I actually love running on the treadmill.  My friends all think that this is weird.  But I don't think that I am alone in my amorous delight with conveyor belt runs.

I just ran 20.5 Miles on the treadmill.

I don't get bored. I play games with my speed, and rarely run more than about 4 minutes at one pace or elevation.

Neither love it nor hate it, it's just a tool to help accomplish a task.

Would very much prefer to be outside which, coincidentally, is where most races are held.

Last season I did a few 90-minute LSD runs on it.  This year, for whatever reason, couldn't take it mentally, too boring.  I did quite a few hour-long interval runs on it this year, which were fine.

The more I use the treadmill, the more I like it. 30 minutes used to be a pain in the but I can tolerate any distance now.

I love it, only because it allows me to train and manipulate the type of course I am training on.

i.e., unless I want to get in my car and drive to run (hard to justify with 3 kids under 6), its hard for me do to hill work.

easy on the treadmill.

also, with the winter we have had, it is great to be able to run when it is below zero.

so, I love that is an option.

Right on! I do like using the treadmill for learning to pace but my new garmin forerunner 305 took care of that issue

I ran from 1983 to 2008 without ever putting a mile in on a TM.

I tried it this year (because there is now one in the basement).

It was FREEZING out so I hopped on for  a short 3 mile run.  i made it one mile got my warm stuff on and ran in teh cold.

i did 2 miles straight on it once.

I have used it several times to get my heart rate up before lifting (1/4 to 1/2 mile)

 TM isn't for me.

In nice weather, I prefer to run outside - I also try to push myself outside in most inclement weather just to keep my mind and body trained in case there's those bad-weather race-days - But, when my schedule means a run either way before daylight, or, way after dark - The treadmill becomes my friend -- And it's kinda' nice on occasion to watch TV while I run...

I can't stand it. I usually never make it more than 30 minutes before I start looking for any way possible to end my misery. When it's sub-zero windchills in the Chicago area I either run on the indoor track or layer up and face the cold.

And I know that supposedly people run faster on the dreadmill, but for me my pace is slower and my RPE way higher, which makes it feel that much more miserable.

Hate it.  Haven't done a workout on one in 17 years.  Only some shoe testing and gait analysis.  Don't see a need for them personally.

I hate it.  I'd much rather run outside.  The treadmill is boring and I get more sweaty when I run on it versus running outside.

I don't know how you did 20.5 miles.  That would drive me crazy.

I prefer to run outside when I can, but I also despise cold weather, so I'll get on it in the winter.  For a long time I was terrified of the damn things (too many videos of people falling off them I guess) but I decided that I'd get over it when it was 19 degrees out...

I don't live that far from you.  We have pretty much the same weather.  I can see running in the cold, and even in the snow (to a point), but what do you do when there's an ice storm?--Just rearrange your schedule to run a different day?

I hate it.  I will limit to about 30 minute runs (just so I can get it done at lunch).  If it's longer, I just wait and do it after work outside.

LOVE it! Great when I get home from 13 hrs at work and can do a late run. Also great for brick workouts in the winter, AND for speed sessions. Once that belt is moving, you have to keep up!

Ive gotten to watch great movies that I wouldn't have had time for otherwise. And, Im not deserting my Allie girl (dog) to leave for all runs. That said, I like running outside better.

I don't love it, but don't hate it more like tolerate it.

This winter has been tough and I have done more TM runs in last 6 weeks than last 5 years combined.

I think it is like the trainer, I've learned to tolerate it and I go longer than I first imagined I could.

I do not like the treadmill. I would much prefer to aquajog.

I only use a treadmill when icy conditions prevent outdoor running for more than a day or two and I can't get to the pool during good aquajogging times.

Or skip the run.  Missing one or two workouts is not going to kill anyone's training.

Hate it. Its not so much the actual running on the thing that I despise, I used to run on one at the gym and kinda liked people watching. What I hate about it is that it chews me up in a way that real running does not. When I run long on a treadmill I end up with really sore hips. Never a problem when I run on the road.

Now I run on a 400m track if its too icky to run outside. I do not even have a gym membership anymore........

I find myself agreeing with the bear. I find it a very useful tool for interval training or when the weather is bad. The key, as PGA mentioned, is to play around with the incline and speed.

Agreed -  we had ice on the ground this winter in Columbus.  Skipped a couple workouts.  Body probably needs the rest anyway.  It was during the ice that I did run my record high 2 miles on a treadmill.
