I completed my first Ironman this past November, since then I have not trained  or done much of anything.  I'm registered for the Cincinnati marathon, but have not trained  for it.  What is the problem?  Why can't I get off my but and do something?

I don't do much if I don't have a clearly defined goal...and it has to be a goal that the thought of achieving excites me, stirs something in me, etc.  Maybe it needs to be something non-tri related.  Start thinking outside the box a little.

I had the same thing going on this winter. Just force yourself to do the first few workouts no matter what. During those first couple of workouts back you'll usually fire off some type of spark and realize you feel so much better after working out and it should get you going again.

And coming here and having all the HTFU's thrown at you will help as well

Here is non-recomended way to get "hungry" again. Get set back with an injury for 4-6 weeks and your motivation comes back. The propblem is you now have a choice... Take that choice away and you look SO forward to getting back out.

Recomended way = Have fun for a while. Leave the watch, HR monitor and bike computer at home for a few weeks... This helped me realize why I started to train in the 1st place. Enjoy it again!

Did you take some down time after your IM?

Sounds like you have some post IM blues. There is a good article here on BT that IronViking wrote and lots of threads about it on the IM board. Sounds like the Marathon isn't firing you up enough to train for it.

What excites you? another IM? new challenge? Think about it and maybe set a new goal.

For a while, I started out the day by saying, "If I were a motivated person, I would..." and then did that. That got me out of a funk temporarily and kept me training when I didn't really feel like it.

When the happy wasn't staying around, I took a closer look at why I wanted to avoid the training. Essentially, I was missing a hobby I gave up for all the training I had been doing. Once I figured out how to get that back in the mix on a regular basis, suddenly I was happy training again.

I don't have an answer for you.... but I'm kind of facing the same thing. I'm registered for Eagleman 70.3 in June, and really haven't been working as hard as I should.... gotta get my butt in gear!!

Ditto on Kathy G's comments. It's common to have a bit of a letdown after an event like an Ironman. I have kknown people to give up the sport all together.

Don't sweat it yet. It's still early. I am not sure where you live, but here in Eastern Canada, the weather is still crappy, so getting motivated to train is tough. Once the snow goes and the temperature creeps up, and more people start on their bikes and hit the trails running, I know I won't have a problem making my workouts.
