Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: The Biggest Loser (Spoiler Alert!) I've only watched the show once (until I had to change the channel cuz I couldn't take it) but I would assume they will be fine; after all they are coached by professionals with what I assume thorough endurance experience plus they lift weights (key training)! If anything they can always catch a ride to the finish line ;) ETA - joking aside they prob will be fine. Edited by JorgeM 2009-03-17 8:11 PM |

I'm going to say yes. Completely realistic finishing times. Also, I think they were fairly well trained for this event. They do a LOT of cardio and you often see them on the treadmills. Maybe they didn't have the "long runs" but they had the frequency and volume. |

Yes, they did, and I am "that guy" that kept saying 13.1 miles not 13 miles until my wife got pissed. Actually, I was impressed with the 2:24:XX finish time. She would have won until the individual with no honor ate a cookie for her (adding 5 minutes to her finishing time). Yes, I know it is a game, and it was for $10,000, but still WTF?!?!? Why not eat one for both of the top two finishers? Did anyone else notice the guy running with the female winner (2:24:XX), his hat? Looked like a Ford Ironman hap. The guy in all black with a four bottle fuel belt on. Or, am I just crazy? |

Champion 10018 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: The Biggest Loser (Spoiler Alert!) As I watched the episode I said to my husband "This is going to come up on BT tomorrow!" I also thought running the half was a bit extreme, even for Tara who said she'd been running in the 6 mile range. But I thought it was an insane prospect for Felipe, Kristin, etc., who really struggled and weren't "runners". Did you see that Laura was wearing a walking boot in the first scene back to the gym. She had it on as they walked in, but it disappeared once they were assembled. Hmmm, wonder if the half was too much for her? Helen's not the brightest bulb... |

X2 to that. I don't believe the 2:24 time for sure. I don't believe anything I see on so called 'reality' shows anymore. They are all a bunch of bullsh!t if you ask me. Everything is orchestrated by the producers to create some sort of drama either through failure, or incredible accomplishment, or conflict, etc. First and foremost, the producers are concerned about entertaining and keeping the audience. Second, they are concerned about selling commercial slots during the show. And somewhere way down the list is concern for depicting the reality of the whole event. I spent a few years in the advertising field and I know how it works. When the guy short cutted the marathon, it wasn't the fact that the producers didn't care about depicting reality that surprised me, I expected that. But, to blatantly pick the guy up in the middle of the course and then drop him off with hundreds of other participants all around was just plain stupidity. There were just too many people around that would attest to what happened. Reality shows and news, the two least credible programs on TV today. My 2 cents. Greg |

The guy in all black with a four bottle fuel belt on. Or, am I just crazy? The thing about the cookies is that you either had to go big or go home. Your only SUREFIRE way to win was to evenly distribute your cookies over the people that you thought could beat you. So, in Tara's case, she probably SHOULD have eaten a few cookies against scione's time. The people at the bottom...let's say, Kristen for example. She's not a fast runner. She would have had to eat the WHOLE thing of cookies against ONE person just to make her time beat theirs. She stood NO chance of winning, so no point in eating cookies. But the whole point of a temptation is to show you that taking the easy way out (eating cookies) isn't worth it. It's much more effective to just work harder. So at the end of my rambling, I think Helen was DUMB to eat just one cookie. That wasn't going to do any good. All or nothing. And I STILL think they should have reported ALL the cookies eaten...it's kinda crap that Aubrey didn't fess up to any of her cookies. I didn't see the hat on that guy, but I did see the fuel belt. Who needs to run with a fuel belt when you are running around a track? Can't ya just pick up a water bottle off a table???? |

X2 to that. I don't believe the 2:24 time for sure. Hmmm I do. Tara and Scione both alluded to running the entire time (except for Scione's cramp at the end). Very doable, especially when $10K is on the line, and they had pacers and a cheering squad the entire time. My first half marathon time was in the 2:23 range and I ran, albeit slowly, the entire time. I saw 200lb ladies finish well before me. It can be done.

Master 1696 Surprise, Arizona | Subject: RE: The Biggest Loser (Spoiler Alert!) I agree that 2:24 is a totally realistic time for Tara. I ran my first 1/2 in 2:26, and seeing her pace, it looked to be similar to what I was running at that time. |

They have been working out for weeks now and I'm sure that they are up to 2x 1 hour on the dreadmill per day. Add to that the strength training they've been doing. I'll have to give credit to the contestants who did their HM on indoor tracks. Tara said she had to do 100+ laps... I would go postal! Did anyone remember the challenge last week where Sione was swimming in the pool, head up, the whole way. That was hard to watch for me. Get Terry Laughlin in there to teach them TI. . |

Extreme Veteran 335 Herriman, Utah | Subject: RE: The Biggest Loser (Spoiler Alert!) I was impressed with all of them. The furthest I've ever run is about 4.5 miles and most of them weigh more than me (though I've lost more than of them, neener-neener!). Last night's episode made me have more respect for all of them, although I do agree with Tara that it would've been great if nobody had eaten a cookie and they would've just ran the race straight-up. However, I do think that ALL of the challenges have been catered to her winning. This year with the amount of HUGE contestants, they should've had more challenges that didn't just reward the fastest person. |
