Large extra thick garbage bag tightly secured has worked the best for me in the past.

Last year was little muddy but most were able to get up the hill out of transition with limited problems - just run up the side of the hill and not up the middle where it is really muddy.

I put a big plastic bag around my rear wheel and drivetrain (have PT hub back there so excessive water could damage it). My chain and cassette, etc., were completely ruined after IMLP (all rusted), so I want to try to keep it as dry as possible, even if not perfectly dry.

I also put a plastic grocery bag around the headset (take computer off), and one will be going on my seat this time, only because the leather or whatever is tearing off and the green foam inside the seat is exposed. I want to keep it as dry as possible. This problem developed a few days ago, but I had some seat issues last month and am hesitant to change my saddle this close to the race, even though I have a brand new saddle (same one) on hold for me at the LBS.

Daremo - 2009-05-14 9:17 AM Definitely not putting on my cycling shoes on in transition then .... they'd be gunked up by the time I got up the hill .....

Good tip.  For someone still new to tris (who definitely does not leave them clipped in on the bike!) I might not have thought of that.

ditto.  never would have thought of that.  thanks

Daremo - 2009-05-14 10:51 AM Socks???  What are these sock things you speak of??

Jeff, it was a little wet last year.  The relayers are set up right next to the bike exit, so you can zip right up the hill and go.  I wore my shoes last year and ran up the hill that way.

your shoes must smell great

There's been rain the past 2 years and I was using Speedplay X5s at the time- never had any issue with the mud.  Don't expect to have any issues with the Zeros this year either as I didn't have any problems with them in the mud pit that was the IMLP transition area last year.  Most important thing about coming out of transition on this course is to be in the right gear to climb right away.

I'm going to try to bike the course on Saturday.  Is it easy to figure out if you have a cue sheet?

"What does not kill us, makes us stronger" I guess. Maybe some of the competition will back out because of the crappy conditions. What would the distances be for the duathlon if it is lightning (a 50%) chance now?

Is anyone tapering for this if they are doing Eagleman as well? I am treating this like a hard workout and just training through it. It is comforting to know that we still have a month left of training for Eagleman

It's not too bad. The part I've seen most people goof up on is where you turn off of Green Bridge to get over to Linthicum Rd. The course is also marked, just be careful since it is marked CT for the Columbia Tri route and IG for the Iron Girl route.

Be careful out there, looks like the weather could be nasty on Saturday.

I did taper a bit, partly by choice and partly because my IT band started acting up a little. I'm going to go back into full training mode next week.

x2 on this its not too hard to realize where you are going. Just be aware of the "white" CT "triangle" symbols.

Good luck.

I barely trained for this (or E-Man) so I'm certainly not tapering!  At least any more than I would for any race (light week with the day before completely off).

Alright, time to put up or shut up.  Goal times!

Me first:

Swim - under 30 would be nice, but realistically probably 31 - 32 (yes, I suck that bad in the water)
Bike - would like to beat last year's 1:05:XX, but probably closer to 1:08 or so
Run Sub - 42 would be good, more realistically probably 44.

Total?  Perfect race - sub - 2:20.  Goal - sub 2:25.

Time to forget about the many different weather forecasts and get the job done!

Goals:
Swim: 23m - (match last year's swim, it was a PR for me and I don't think I'm ready to beat that time just yet)
Bike: 1h 15m (just over 20mph average)
Run: 47m 30s (7:40 pace)

Overall: sub 2h 30m

Good Luck everyone!!

I will play:

Swim: Goal: sub 20, Perfect 19
Bike: Goal: 1:07, Perfect 1:06
Run: Goal: sub 42, Perfect 40

Transitions - 4 min total

Goal: 2:13, Perfect 2:09

This assumes my doctor still allows me to race and my medication does not mess me up to bad.

Good luck to everyone on Sunday.  I'll be bodymarking starting at 4:45 am and then working the finish line later, so look for my neon yellow Mid Maryland Tri Club visor if you want a first rate bodymarking job and a slap on the at the finish line.  I hope everyone feels like this after the race:

Ok, I'm game...
Goal time 2:50:00 (Big goal)
Ok with sub 3:00:00 - I will be a bit ticked if I don't break 3 hours.

Swim Goal sub 25; happy with sub 26
Bike Goal 1:25; happy with sub 1:30 (yes, I'm that slow on the bike)
Run Goal sub 55; happy with sub 56 (really no excuse to only avg 9 min miles - I should be 30 secs faster per mile, but we'll see)
Transistions Goal sub 4:00; Happy with sub 5

So if all goes well and I hit all my goals at the top end, that puts me at 2:49:00. I would be pretty happy with this.

here are my last year results.  granted, I had only had 6 weeks of training because i was in a full arm cast until 4/6/08.

total time swim  time   t1        bike        mph   t2      run    pace
LISA HERTLING   28  3:03:29   30:30          3:40    1:31:33   16.6  2:19   55:29  8:56

I don't even know what to hope for with the swim.  I would be really happy with something in the 26-27min range

For the bike, I would really like 18mph or 1:24min.  again, i don't have a really good idea here.

for the run, i would really like to do 8:10 or better averages or 50min.  this is pushing it though on those hills.

plus 5 min of transitions i figure 2:46 is do-able.  hard, but do-able.  I really want to be under 2:50.....oh, yeh, and my name is now albrecht

that would be 17 min and a last name of improvement.
