Subject: Running off of the bike...tips?

When I'm on the bike, I feel great, even when I do my 30+ mile rides.  However, when I get off the bike, my problem with running is not quads, hams, or calves.  My issue is fatigue/pain deep in the bottom of my glutes...feels like where the tops of my femurs connect with my hips.  My legs feel ok to run, but I just can't move them well because of the situation I mentioned.  Is this more related to position/technique issue, pace issue, or just a "ride more" issue?  I ride a lot of hills, and I feel I work a lot in the glute area while climbing (I usually sit and rarely stand)...should I focus more on quads, move my position?

ride more, and then ride even more.

also, realize when you get off the bike, its gonna suck. the sooner you realize that part the easier the next step becomes;-)

I think in time it will get better. Last year I found my bricks felt so much better than previously...to bad it only took 5 years to get to that place.

LOL...thanks Kathy...so I've got 4 more years to go.     Sprint distance feels ok (never felt this on a 15 mile day).  Once I get over 20, the "deep hip crapola" starts.  I'm just hoping the flats of Florida, even with the distance involved, work out better for me.  I'm going up to 300 miles a month for the next two months...crossing my fingers to be prepared.  I appreciate the words of all who have answered this thread!

just an FYI but flat courses can often be harder on the hips because you dont move around, get out of the saddle, etc.

i would say biking more would be a good place to start (given this is an option).

just to rule it out, make sure you have a solid fit going on and that is not a cause of the issues.

get your bike cadence similar to run cadence, at least for the last mile or so. your legs are then ready to turn at that cadence. quick stretch coming to dismount line, stretching each hamstring. works for me.
