Subject: Aquabike vs HIM in IM training plan

I am gearing up for IM FL training and trying to finalize the race calendar for the year.

The first half of 2009 has been devoted to marathon training followed by HIM training for an early May race.  I am planning on dialing it back for a couple of weeks after the HIM before starting the second half of the season and building towards IM FL.  I would like to do boh a late season (September) HIM and an Aquabike (Late Sept/Early Oct) but my travel budget is limited and living in Texas, there are just not a lot of long distance races that are easy to get to (e.g. I can only travel to one of the races, either the HIM or Aqubike)

I am looking at Redman and Prairieman in Septmber for the HIM distance, but I also noticed that I could do the Redman Full Distance Aquabike.  What do you think would be better to add to my schedule?  The other option if I choose to do the HIM is to find a century and do some swimming before.

Would love your thoughts.  Thanks!

Neither is necessary, but the full aquabike is probably much better IM training.

Hands down the aquabike, you can actually work on IM pacing at this race.....

Wow - that was definitely not the answer that I was expecting!  This really changes my strategy for the second half of the season.  What to do, what do to ....

I did Chessieman Aquavelo 6 weeks out from IMFL and it was great practice.  Showed me that I really needed to slow down on the bike come IM race day (which I didn't bother following through on).
