I just got done the Cherry Blossom 10 miler today and wowzers from mile 6-8 was a nice pace set by this lovely lady |

Here is what I told my wife after my Thanksgiving 10k "I found some nice pace booty after mile 4. I really pushed myself to keep up. With about 1/2 mile left, I felt a surge of energy and kicked it in high gear. As I passed my pace booty, HE looked extremely surprised." $25 dollar entry... $140 running shoes... $35 running shorts... The look of confusion, then amusement on my wife's face... PRICELESS! Seems not. Don't know if there are others. I actually use both male and female pace booty and "pace annoyance" to help keep me going. Today on my 5K, there were some hot dudes most of whom were too fast for me to follow and some hot ladies (why be picky about pace booty?) and a few pace annoyances. The annoyance "booty" are the various people with feet loudly slapping on the pavement, irritating music on their ipod at the 'sharing' decibel, those who sing or mumble to the music, people with things that jingle in their fanny packs, or those whose breathing sounds like the dying wheezy groan of a bull elk. I run fast to leave those people behind. Clearly I am easily annoyed by sounds, but hey, if a little annoyance gets me to the finish line faster, so much the better. There's also fascination "booty". That's the occasional person whose running style is "flail wildly about while bouncing vertically". It's fascinating how this somehow becomes forward motion. No doubt I am someone else's curious-dorkette-running-spectacle, but I can't deny watching it in others. |

I actually caught myself just staring for about 10 minutes before I realized that I had slowed down a bit. :P but it was worth it! |

As for annoyance runners, at Shamrock I ran near two different people who dragged their feet....and I mean that their feet never left the pavement. One guy was doing this at mile 1. I can only guess that they wear out 2 pairs of shoes / week. The noise drove me nuts and I 'ran and ran' to get away. |
