Total Time = 1h 12m 24s
Overall Rank = 77/234
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 6/17
Pre-race routine:

Had some cereal for breakfast. Drove for 1 1/2 hours. Stopped at Mickey D's for a bacon egg and cheese buiscit on the way (Not a good idea, but I needed something and I was running late) Figured out the course, laid out my stuff, talked to Brian and Garren... just tried to relax. Ate a cool mint clif bar about an hour before the race.
Event warmup:

Swam a bit in the pool. Next time I need to do a quick spin on my bike... (see bike notes below)
Swim
  • 07m 59s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

Awesome! Had never done an under 8 minute 500 yards in practice. Drafting worked out incredibly well. Great swim.
What would you do differently?:

Was a tad bit too fast out of the gate... passed a guy who caught up to me later and I had to let him pass.
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Awesome T1. Smart move running past all the joggers. 2nd in my age group in this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Uh.... put my shoes on the right feet ;)
Bike
  • 36m 33s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Awesome ride. Better once again then any of my time trials. Downhill at the end was slamming. Was a hard ride, but I felt pretty good. Gel placement and timing was perfect, never ran out of gas or even felt like I was. Perfect decision making regarding gear, never felt cold in my one-piece, the aquagel stuff Brian gave me worked like a charm in the shoes, was glad I didn't mess with a jacket or warmers or anything.
What would you do differently?:

Put my shoes on my right feet (although, surprisingly, this didn't slow me down at all) Ride the bike beforehand to make sure everything is smooth (the rain fenders got screwed up in the car ride out and when I got on the bike they were rubbing on the wheels.
Transition 2
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

Terrible transition. Spent a minute looking for my shoes...
What would you do differently?:

MAKE SURE you know what your towel looks like! Think about where you're going after you come off the bike. Really visualize this ahead of time. Remember to take off helmet!
Run
  • 23m 58s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Again awesome! Really happy with the under eight minute pace.
What would you do differently?:

Nothin
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit...didn't need too much

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall aerobic stuff...just need to get a little more oxygen to those muscles. Also the T2. My bike might be a little faster too once I've dewinterized it.

Event comments:

Great first race. I enjoyed myself, met my goals, and surpassed my expectations. Hope to do it again.
