I had my first run today in one of ZOOT's new for '09 shoe's. This model is the Energy, a neutral, long distance trainer/racer. I had trouble last year with their Tempo TT trainer as it was to minimal and hard on my legs. This shoe has more cushioning and I had a nice 8.5 mile run in them today. I will give more thoughts as I put some mileage on them. Here's a pic.

Thanks for the review.  I have the Tempo shoes and I can't see wearing them for anything longer than a 10k.

Nice pic.

I'll be eager to hear more of what you think once you start putting the mileage in.  I believe the tempos were the cause of a foot injury last fall due to wearing them on a longer run.

bryan,

would deff love to hear how these go down the road. i do all my training/racing in the tempo right now, have run up to 16 miles in them without issues but am thinking of getting a pair (whichever is the stability model) for more training runs both to hopefully not get hurt and to let the tempo pair last a bit longer.

The new stability shoe is called the Advantage:

ya i'd be interested in hearing about how the legs hold up after long runs in these.   i've been using the Ultra TT shoes and i started having shin and foot issues when i went from 5-6 mile to 7-9 mile runs.    i honestly think it's the shoes...so much so that i ordered a pair of Nike Vomeros to do my long runs in (they were what i wore before the Zoots).

I have been racing in Ultra Tempo +, last year's model. While short races required minimal brake in, I blistered up sockless on the first longer training run as I was to race 70.3 in them. It took several weeks for my skin to brake in, but once that was done it was great. They do have minimal support and not much protection but race well. You will have to condition yourself to be able to use these or their new stability trainer in order to race longer distances. It leaves calve muscles more fatifgued and sore, at least for me. Also more recovery time after. I just raced 70.3 NO in them and they did a good job. I will stick to them. I would like to try Advantage model but just a little affraid to change my Mizuno Inspire 4 as a daily trainer, since they worked so well for me. There is an old saying "don't fix it if it aint broken". That is giving me some trouble in deciding.

I got a pair of the Energy shoes and have been running in them for a week now. They feel great cushioning wise for the first few runs but seem to lose their cushioning pretty quick as compared to other brands. I love the Zoot brand of shoes and I used the tempos last year for training and actually used them for IMLP last year. But I do not get as many miles out of the Zoots as I do with other brands. Like to hear what others experince has been in this reguard.

thats odd, i got around 400-450 miles out of last years tempos, which included about 75% of theruns on trails.

i still wear them for shorter races now and then......

Very funny, Rick.... Pot calling the kettle black..

OK, run number two is done. Another 8.5 miles, same route, similar conditions. Let me start with what changes have been made that work great. they have a new pully system for the speed laces and new pull cord lock that is a huge improvement over last years model. The shoe's is much more substantial than before but still very light. The design and the colors are also much improved. Unfortunatley for me, they still don't have sufficient cushioning and rebound in the fore foot. They also have a stiff heel cup with a ridge which causes a blister to form on my right heel even wearing socks. For my running form, they just don't give me enough response and cause more leg fatigue during and post run. I was sore last night although better today after this run, but I went slower. It's a shame as they are really nice but I just can't run in them.

I will be offering this pair of size 11, they still run a bit large, IMO, in the classified section shortly for what I paid for them $44.00 plus shipping. They are $110 new. PM me if interested.

I bought the Energy's about 2 weeks ago.  I ran a half mary in them last Sunday after only about 10 miles in them before the race.  I think they felt great from the start.  I did get one blister on my R foot, but I expected that with as little time as I had in them.

Anyway, I like them!
