Hi, I have goggles that work perfectly for me when swimming and dont leak etc.
But when I turn and push hard off the wall in the pool they let water in. I cant see how racers can dive into the pool and push so hard each turn without leaks (Phelps aside). Is there an optimum head position to prevent this or do I need to have them tighter ?
Thanks

How old are your goggles? I had some old pairs that started to do that as the rubber seal got old and started to wear down.

Also, this is random but I found sometimes I would change facial expressions when flip turning and that would change the seal and let some water in. Try and be as solemn as possible when flip turning Laughing

Goggles are only 2 weeks old so cant be the age thing. Will try the solemn serious face then, thanks for the tip

I think I am usually looking at the bottom of the pool when I push off.  Never really paid attention actually.  I just wear my goggles tight enough to make sure the lines around my eyes last the rest of the day.

Believe it or not, this could be part of it.  I've found that even my standard goggles (Speedo Vanquishers) which fit me very well will sometimes leak until I get them broken in.

Another thing to try -- tuck your chin to your chest a little as you push off the wall in a streamlined position so that your biceps are behind your ears.  This is more streamlined than having your head up, and it's the position my swim coach taught me to use coming out of turns and off the blocks.

Swimmers very rarely dive into the pool except for races. In my experiences most swimmers have a pair of goggles for racing, and one for practice where they wear them for hours.

It can depend on the type of goggle you have and what you're willing to sacrifice for comfort. I like comfortable goggles and in turn, just don't push off in a streamlined position as hard.

I sometimes have the same problem. For a really hard pushoff I need to look forward so that the pressure of the water is directly into my face/goggles.

When you dive into the pool, look at your belly button....

Same principle with coming off the walls hard, chin tucked down and look at your belly button - arms streamlined touching your ears....

Thanks to all for the advice. Will try it out today, chin down looking at my belly button and not pushing off too hard.

I have Speedo Vanquishers and have never once had them leak.  I wear them pretty snug.  Not uncomfortable, but I have sexy goggle imprints around my eyes after wearing them for an hour to give you an idea how how snug they are.

Ok update for you.
Tried the advice given and 100% success. Chin down looking at belly button, arms behind ears and gave it full push-off and not a single drip entered the goggles.
My speed off the wall was great as well due to the better streamlined position.

Thank you everyone
