Event warmup:

I streatched out and then did about a 200m swim in the ocean to get use to the cold water.
Swim
  • 17m 40s
  • 800 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first open water swim. I had tried to do some swims earlier in the week but could only get in the water. I am surprised that I did as well as I did. The shallow water helped out a lot as i could stand up and take a break. Overall I think that it was an awesome swim.
What would you do differently?:

I would have more experience with open water swimming with practice in the ocean in particular. I need to work on navigation and sighting as well as dealing with the waves while swimming.
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

My wetsuit got stuck on my ancles and I had to sit down to remove it. This was a very fast transition for me considering I had never done a transition were I had to remove a wetsuit. I also forgot to set up the straps on my bike shoes and so this cost me some time in the transition. Last I tried to rinse my feet but it did not work out so well as I just picked up rock from the pavement.
What would you do differently?:

I would try to remeber to set up my bike shoes so i can get them on in a faster time. I would bring a contaner to wash my feet in.
Bike
  • 56m
  • 16.71 miles
  • 17.90 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a short bike protion but it had so many sharp turns in the begining that it made it hard to go very fast. Once on the street it was a much easer ride.
What would you do differently?:

I would work on my cornering and sharp turn skills. Also a pre-race ride of the cource would have helped out a lot.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

This was an awesome transisiton and a PB for me.
What would you do differently?:

Try to get the socks on faster or work on running with out socks.
Run
  • 27m 10s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

This is PB for me and I thought the run went very well. I kept it slow in the begging and picked it up towards the end. The hills still got to me a little but over it was a good run. I very little to no walking.
What would you do differently?:

Work on running up hills faster. Not ware my road ID on left ancle.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around finish area and then a walk out to the point. Followed by some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim portion in the open water was new to me and was a challenge to complete more work on this would most likely improve my time.

Event comments:

The parking wasnt very good and the start was kinda unorganized. Other then that the race was pretty good. Lot of voulenteers helping out. There was only one aid station through out the whole race and it only had water. I would recomend this race to any one who has never done an open water swim in a tri.
