She hit the dude on a sidewalk?  Dayum.  I'm not sure much of a statement is needed to find the fault there.

FYI, somebody got hit at the Natchez Trace Century this past weekend.  They were on Rice Road, a half a mile from finishing.  How in the world that happens when the driver just went through a traffic controlled intersection where they're stopping traffic for the cyclists is beyond me.  They guy is apparently ok, but needs a little cosmetic dentistry and a few stitches.

I was OTB on a group ride last night trying to hang with the A riders (about 25 of us). I'm giving a "car back" and most of the group singles up except this guy in an Anthem kit. I give another one and someone else in the group relays it forward. This d-bag refuses to single up. Meanwhile, the woman driving the SUV rolls down the passenger window and starts giving ME the business. I ignore her, but still, I'm guilty by assosciation b/c that d-bag doesn't feel he shouls single up.

Fortunately him and his pals split off the group and we had a good finish to the ride.

Hope the guy who's hit is OK. It sucks being hit. Hope the bimbo learns something from this once the aftermath sinks in.

I holding back major comments regarding driving over the speed limit in a residential area, while talking on a cell phone, inattentive driving, and the bike rider not wearing a helmet.  The biker was lucky.

Wow - if she went up on the sidewalk, then they can't fault the cyclist, right? Even if he wasn't wearing a helmet - most states don't have laws about adults wearing them. It's stupid yes, but possibly not illegal.

Spokes - 2009-04-14 8:51 AM CORRECTION: The Blonde and I are having coffee and the girl did NOT slam on her brakes (hey, I'm old, my memory is crap, OK?).

The woman was honked at by another driver and apparently, to avoid him, not paying attention, turned and slammed into the stop light pole and nailed the guy, whom she did NOT see. Amazingly, her Pilot was driveable even though her airbag deployed. CHP trooper drove it out of the intersection.

Why was she honked at by another driver?  Because she almost hit that vehicle first, causing the driver of that vehicle to honk his horn?

Something's fishy here.

She was driving erratically and talking on her phone, and I think that's why she got honked at.

Honking, and flipping the finger is pretty common behavior around here. Tongue out

A sunroof comes in VERY handy for um, that.

It's hard to do that behavior when one is texting, or have they mastered that already?

You only need one hand to text.  Your other hand is free to hold up a finger and stick it out of your sunroof.

Spokes - 2009-04-14 3:31 PM Kalifornia now requires head sets or hands free operation with cell phones if you're driving. Its a widely ignored law, of course. I actually walked by a couple of CHP motorcycle cops at the State Capitol the day the law was effective last year, asked them about enforcement, and they laughed, saying "its like shooting fish in a barrel out there." Its basically unenforceable (as it is everywhere else, I imagine), and the same guy that sponsored the cell phone law got an anti-texting law passed that was effective Jan 1st.

If you're caught with the cell phone, its only a $20 ticket the first time. I would imagine though it hurts your case in court if you've got witnesses saying that you were on the cell when the accident occured w/o headset.

Damn thats weak.
Here if you get caught phone/driving its automatic 3 points on your license (same for speeding etc) i believe its 9 points and you get DQ from driving.

Most employers insist on clean driving licenses etc too.

This was on the news the other day :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7994449.stm

Seriously though , when i was doing my driving lessons 5 years ago before it became mega taboo, my driving instructor made me try and drive with one hand next to my head to prove how hard it is to drive/stop at junctions etc.

I've always maintained that it's not safe to ride on the sidewalk.  Here we have proof.

All the while the eyes are diverted and one is attempting to drive with their leg(s).  Scary.

I already declaired yesterday as "Accident Monday".  I saw 4 of them yesterday.  Including one where they were pulling a little girl out and putting her on a stretcher...

Scary...

My 2 hour ride on Saturday almost ended after 2 minutes, when some dbag on a dialing his cell almost broadsided me at an intersection.  I had stopped and was proceeding to go again and he did a "rolling stop" with more roll than stop and I ended up about 3 inches from the side of his Rav4.  It was nice to see the look on his face when I was that close.  He may have had to change his shorts when he got home.

Just curious if this guy is sponsoring an anti-drive through window bill this year?  It's about driving safety right?

Don't get me wrong, I think that the lady is a horrible driver if she ran up on a sidewalk regardless of phone or not.  But please don't tell me it was purely because she was on the phone.

And if driving with one hand is so hard, wouldn't stick shifts be outlawed?  Maybe we just need harder driving tests.

If everyone had to drive standard there would be a lot fewer people yakking on cell phones without a hands free option.

There! New law! Every vehicle must be modified to standard.  Problem solved.
