Hey, my name is Daniel and I've recently become interested training for and competing in triathlons.  I'm not very experienced although I do bike on occasion and was on the swim team in high school.  I've had a subscription to traithlete magazine for about a half a year and just bought the beginners training log with a 12 week couch-to-traithlon sort of routine.  I plan on starting this routine come May 19th since this will give me some time to secure a better bike (right now I'm training on my dad's old hybred which has standard pedals, t-handle bars, and is way to big and heavy for me.)  Just wanted to say hi to everyone and I look forward to becoming an active member of the tri-community.

Welcome to BT!  I was a college not too long ago.  Just finished my grad degree about a year ago.  You sound like you have a great background with swimming which should aid to your future success.  Good luck and enjoy BT!

Hey, welcome!  Glad you're here, and jealous of your swimming back ground - it's my weakest event.  If you want some inspiration, you should go to the USAT website and read about the Collegiate National Championship that happened yesterday  in Lubbock, TX : )

x2 on the swimming background!   why wait until may to get started?  hop on the hybrid and do some riding, it will get your legs used to it, and if you used to pushing a heavy, non-aerodynamic bike around, it will just be that much easier when you get a new bike!

welcome to BT!

Yeah, I'm definitly riding a lot more recently than I have been, but I'm going to wait on the 12 week training plan until I have everything I'm going to use on race day.  Just kind of an anal thing.

Hello and welcome fellow college triathlete! It's good to see the new generation emerging and growing the sport even further. If your college's rec offers any spinning classes, that's an efficient way to get yourself in great (bike)shape, especially as your easing your way into training. Like mentioned above, you don't have to really wait to start training - maybe just staying strict to your future routine is what your waiting for. In the mean time, go out for a long run, or experiment with some bric sessions. Discover your weaknesses, your strengths; and find out when, where, and how you like to handle certain training sessions. That way you will have some good expectations when it's time to get serious. Good luck and see you around.

Welcome to BT and to the world of triathlon.

If you are at a larger school/university, there might be a triathlon club already organized that will also help you train and give you local feedback to your training.   I know that my big-10 alma mater has a club team (that they didn't have when I was there).

My background is swimming as well, making the cycling my "achilles heel" to date.  The triathlons I did last year were all with my mountain bike (I've since upgraded to a road bike).

As far as the training goes, if you wait, you're only holding off your improvements.  you can wait, but my question is "Why?"
