I grew up in the water surfing, water skiing, swimming and I'm a certified Rescue diver, but I've now grown to dread lap swimming. I'm half way through IM training and still staring down the barrel of 40+ swim workouts. I don't mind lap swimming if it's 2 days a week between 1500-2000 yrds, but it gets mind numbingly boring once I pass the 2000 yrd mark.

I just purchased and received the swimp3 this weekend and tried it out last night. Man..... what a difference! I think this will really help me get through the training. I swim roughly 1:30 per 100 and it never moves from where I put it. It does fade in and out depending on the water in my ears but I can always hear it.

Anyone else use one?

All you need to do is get past the fact that you look like a goof wearing it.....

I've been using one for about four years. Love it. And it still works great.

Yeah, but how can you hear traffic coming and hear your surroundings. Sounds totally unsafe

I been using the latest version for about a month and I love it.  I found I increased speed and distance due to my tempo and lack of boredom!  Some Zepplin, Cold Play, AC/DC, and put it on cruise!

What about the psychological effect of not being able to wear it during the IM?

Wow! This is good to know. I tried the original version of the SwiMP3 a few years ago and couldn't get used to the sound it made when I stopped on the wall- kind of high pitched. It only worked IN the water. Sounds like this newer version is much better.

BTW, if anyone is interested in 20% off one of these I think they still have them at Finis - http://www.finisinc.com just use discount code 'aggies20' at at checkout.

I think with the hype of the event, I will be fine. It's the same as running with one in training and then running without it in an event.

As for the safety question..... Swimmers have the right of way in my pool. Kidding......

LMAO!

I just thought I'd ask about how it might affect you in the actual race. I don't train with music at all and I always wonder that if I started to if it would become a crutch for pacing.

I use to use my IPOD while running and cylcing (I know!!) and was really stressed about not having it at my events, but after my first Tri I realized that I don't miss it at all. The hype and the adrenaline push me through. I do find myself singing the same song over and over though.

I swim either at 8pm or 6am which is another reason for needing the tunes.

Note: I Never use my IPOD while riding anymore....
