Pre-race routine:

Had a big bowl of oatmeal, blueberries & milk. Went to go pick up some gels, but neither Cub or WAL*MART carry it. Picked up some SportsBeans instead. Eh. Drove up with Cindy and parked west of Minnehaha.
Event warmup:

Nothing. Got Cindy some safety pins. Put my sweats in the bag and left the bag at the bag drop-off.
Run

Comments:

Haven't really trained for this, so didn't have big expectations. I knew I wasn't going to PR, but I felt pretty good.

Big venue. Over 10,000 people there, and they started the 10K and half marathon at about the same time. I waited until the gun start, and let people go by since it was chip timed. As soon as I saw people go by at about running pace, I joined in and that way I was running by the time I got to the timing mat.

Fairly flat and downhill until the turnaround. I started thinking at mile 4 that this was going to be a painful run back. Suprisingly I had a strong mile 7 (uphill 8:23 min/mi) & 9 (uphill 8:04). I think I took it TOO strong, because miles 10-12 I really slowed (8:35, 8:34, 8:47). HTHU at mile 13. Anyone can run a mile right? Had just a little left to pick up the pace the last 0.2 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a water, Pearson's Nut Roll, chocolate milk, banana, orange juice.

Stopped by McDonald's and got a double cheeseburger. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training.

Event comments:

Great spring race. Always seems to be cold, but IT DIDN'T RAIN! Will do this every year with my wife (she did the 10K).

Nice job Sal - good to see you out there.  This course is really nice for a half.  Will probably keep doing it in future years.  We dodged the weather bullet

Yes we did.  You had a great race.  I can always count on seeing you racing by me (in the other direction), well before I get to the turnaround!

Nice job for not having trained   We totally lucked out, weather-wise.  I can't believe I didn't see you this year!  There were a ton of people.  I hope Cindy had a good race too.

Great race!

Are you sure you were undertrained for that?

Great job!!  If I had times like that without training, I'd be pretty happy.
