I am 41 years old and have 4 boys under the age of 9. We just moved to Arizona and don't know anyone. I went to the gym almost daily (hello 2 hours of childcare!!) but didn't have any direction. Got a wild idea to focus my training and set a goal of a sprint triathlon. Pretty good shape, but I've never done endurance training before. Have only about 10 weeks to train, and hope that is realistic (mostly hope I won't come in last!). Would love to lose about 10 pounds. and more importantly say "I DID IT!" Love this site and the massive amount of information everyone is willing to share. Thanks!!

Welcome aboard Carol!
This site is agreat place allright. Good luck with everything.
Most online training plans I have seen seem to start at 12 weeks so I don't know how they would cut down to 10 weeks. The british triathlon organisation does however have a 8 week plan at their website http://www.britishtriathlon.orgother members will be able to point you in other directions I'm sure.

If you are pretty fit already, I think you'll be up for it in 10 weeks. Just take a look at some 12 week plans and make some small adjustments. And last, shmast! You still get to say I did it, and remember you came in ahead of everyone who didn't tri!! Not that I really think you'll be last...

Welcome, BTW!! Glad to have you with us.

Welcome Carol! I'm also a 41-year-old mother of boys. I would think you're already there in the run portion wtih 4 boys!;-) No better feeling in the world than when you cross the finish line, no matter what place you come in.

Welcome Carol -- you'll do fine in 10 weeks by tweeking whatever plan you use. I actually had 5 weeks before my first tri last year and was (still am) not a runner. I did fine for a first tri, and now I am training at base all winter until now using a 16 week plan to improve my leg strength and condition. I did suffer with shin splints last year for doing too much too soon -- but nothing time hasn't healed!!

Good luck -- nice to have you here.

Nancy

Welcome Carol,
I would think doing a triathlon would be a great way to meet people. I envy your location; we still have too much snow to do a whole lot of biking or running.

Have a great time getting ready for it.

welcome Carol.
10 weeks is plenty of time. Learn to use the site's training logs and check in daily.

Welcome to the gang Carol. Good to see more people joining every day. You can't imagine how much we northerners envy you, having nice weather for outdoor training instead of the snow and slop here in New England. Keep posting, ask plenty of questions, and keep us updated on how the training is going. And let us know when the tri date gets near, so we can all cheer you on via the cyber sideline!

Welcome! I had to LOL at your reason for working out daily. I sooo understand, and I only have 2 kids! You should do just fine in 10 weeks, especially if you are already in good shape.

with your daily gym incursions, i think u def can finish a sprint on 10 weeks of training. just listen to your body and feel free to ask a lot of questions.

good luck!
