Subject: converting shifters to bar end shifters
Just bought a new bike with a road configuration from a friend (quattro assi) and want to add aerobars and bar end shifters. How difficult is it to swap out the shifters? Hoping I can do it at home since I live way out in the country, but, I am very mechanically disadvantaged.

Thanks

I did it, and it's not that hard...  Just takes a bit of time.

However, you will need more items than you might have first guessed.

You will need new cables and cable housing and new bar tape as well.

Do you plan to use the existing shifter/brakes as your brakes, or upgrade them as well?

Bring it to a shop.

Why'd you get a road bike if you wanted a tri bike?

I already have a tri bike (cervelo dual), I just want to get aero on the road bike in the wicked Texas wind. And, bike shop is 110 miles away! Seemed reasonable anyways.

Why not just put some clip-on aerobars on the road bike and leave the shifters alone? Seems like a lot of work just to avoid the wind, IMHO.

If you already have a tribike I would keep the STI's and just add some shorty clipons.
