Does anyone know where I could get help from a swimming coach around the midlands? I've recently completed the Langley Pond and Lake Murray Sprints, but not without having a less than average swim at each location. I'm decent on the bike and run and would like to be more competitive overall, but  can't because of the swim. I'd also like to possibly do an olympic this year, but I'm not going to waste my time if I can't get out of the water in a decent time. Any help or information regarding a coach would be greatly appreciated.

check out this website for the masters swim practice. Get in touch with Nick Brunson (finished 10th in the open division at Lake Murray.
On a slightly funny note, maybe we need to get together for a team. I had a good swim (15:42) but crashed my bike less than 50 yards from the start of the bike leg!

Wow! I actually heard about that. Hope that you're ok. Where do you normally train for the swim? I'm doing Clemson next weekend and would like to see great improvement between now and then. Not looking for a miracle, but I don't lack on work ethic. Just need to find the right technique.

How long have you been swimming?

Good luck at Clemson. I'll be there. It will be my first of the season.

Lake Murray was my second sprint this year. I have very limited experience swimming. The last sprint that I did before this year was three years ago and just started swimming six weeks ago in preparation for the Lake Murray Sprint. I'm decent on the bike and run, but struggle like hell in the water. I swam in the open water approximately five times before the Lake Murray. I just dont feel nearly as confident in the water as I do on the bike or running. I'm normally exhausted when I get out of the water.

I joined the Gold's Gym in Lexington this past february. They have a new 25m pool. Before that I swam at the "Y" in downtown Columbia. Our office was across the street until almost 2 years ago. Check out the "Lake Murray Tri" tread for my condition.

I forgot the website yesterday, here it is:

I honestly felt the same way about swimming. Coincidentally the TI coach just posted a video and articles on this site today. Open water swims will make you more confident on race day but the drills in the pool make the swimming more effortless. In a couple month the swim distances will seem short and you will be coming out of the water refreshed from a good warm-up
