My First Triathlon
76F / 24C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 56m 32s
Overall Rank = 306/482
Age Group = 35
Age Group Rank = 41/52
Pre-race routine:

Picked up packet, looked at swim course and checked water conditions, viewed transition area for in/out points. Went home packed equipment and put numbers on, pasta dinner and early to bed. At course 2 hours prior just in case.
Event warmup:

Walking, light jog and stretching.
Swim
  • 19m 41s
  • 400 yards
  • 04m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Still have a LOT of work to do on my swim.
What would you do differently?:

More practice
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 01m 48s
  • 12 miles
  • 11.65 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Just need to get more comfortable and establish a good cadence.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Not a big deal. I'm still using cages so I changed shoes after swim.
What would you do differently?:

Practice once I go to clips.
Run
  • 35m 3s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Could not stretch legs out and got comfortable with slower then normal pace because people were walking.
What would you do differently?:

Run my own race next time. Take a couple seconds to stretch quads of the bike to get legs going quicker. Start final kick earlier. Waited until last 1/2 mile to pick up pace. Should have started increasing pace sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked it off, light stretch followed by energry drink and a banana. Then a cold beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training. Need to do more bricks to get body used to transition. Run was way slow because of tiredness from swim and cramping on bike.

Event comments:

First Triathlon, so comparing to runs.
