Swim
Comments: Off Elwood Beach. Shallow start and end so waded 50m each way to start and end swim. Long run to beach from Transition area but took it easy. HR chart is interesting to see how HR was high on the entry run, then dropped away once swimming began. Got a bit closer to a couple of people during the swim and managed to not get too freaked out which is great. Was touched on the legs a couple of times and felt ok with that. Gaining confidence all the time I think!!! What would you do differently?: Train more!! Forearms and shoulders do get more tired with the full suit. More swimming both in the pool and in the ocean with the suit will help. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from beach to bike. Bike
Comments: Got a mark on older professional looking tri-athlete. He headed me in by 200m, but I caught him 100m into the run. He was stuffed and had pushed too hard on the bike. What would you do differently?: Get into cleats quicker. Need to get some aero bars or get new bike! Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Get runners on quicker!! Elasticised laces? Didn't get the footpod turned on correctly. Run
Comments: Felt bit slow off the bike for the first 300m, then stronger after that. Passing lot's of people, only 5 passed me. Very happy that could keep HR at 170, then able to push it to 173-174 for last km. Strong finish. What would you do differently?: push harder from 2km. Post race
Warm down: Drinking 2 gatorades, 2 beers. Felt lousy for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Had that odd sensation when bending over that my head would blow off with excess pressure. This was just like when I first noticed it after the long 10 mile run at K's when I pushed myself way beyond my usual distance and suffered that feeling (diminishingly) over the next 3 weeks. Also felt similarly lousy. Is this something that happens as a response to pushing myself too hard? What limited your ability to perform faster: More swim training. Plaesed with running since I have not been training anywhere near as much as I have been. Last updated: 2005-03-20 12:00 AM

Had sore L & R calves when I woke. We had a massage therapist in the tent and he massaged calves, only to find that there were trigger points in both calves (really painful!!) stemming from tight IP muscle in groin. ie postural tilting forward of the pelvis leading to overuse of the soleus muscles which do a lot to maintain centre of gravity. He loosened IP muscles as well. OUCH!!! (But definitley worthwhile\!!)
100m swim 20mins prior to start.
