Total Time = 1h 21m 49s
Overall Rank = 792/1021
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 60/80
Pre-race routine:

Late rego so had to pick up pack at 7am. Up at 5:45am. Was a bit rushed packing things and getting bike rack on car, etc. Should have done this the night before!!!
Event warmup:

Swam ~100m to calm down and feel the water about 10 mins prior to start.
Swim
  • 12m 4s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Flat water to start but a slight lap at bouy. Felt good on way out. Got to bouy quicker than I thought. On return, arms were beginning to fatigue and I was nervous of elite juniors catching up - which they did about 150 from home. Didn't get swum into but was anxious nonetheless!

But it was a great boost in confidence since I haven't swum beyond 300m in a race before. Now thinking about how 750m would feel!
What would you do differently?:

Train more before hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Transition 1
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

Wasn't focussed on change and out of practice.
What would you do differently?:

Be more organised about what to do.
Bike
  • 40m 53s
  • 20 kms
  • 29.35 km/hr
Comments:

Rode easily, could have pushed more but held back to perform better on the run (which seems to have worked).
What would you do differently?:

Push harder on the bike and back my running training to get me though that discipline.
Transition 2
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

Tried to put bike in wrong place! Mis-identified my spot. No socks was ok.
What would you do differently?:

I'd bike spot better before start.
Run
  • 23m 30s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 42s  min/km
Comments:

Felt a lot better than I had expected. Run training must be really having an effect. Thought I was plodding but run time was 37/80 so doing really well. No pain.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit more later in the run.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience, lack of swim training

Event comments:

Very good and very organised.
