I have a bag underneath the back of my saddle so I need something that won't get in the way - I'd like to have one that holds two water bottles. Through my brief searches, I'm a little surprised at the prices. Any suggestions? Thanks.

IMO xlab is the way to go, they are a little pricey but you can get 2 bottles with cages that won't eject your bottles, and will hold everything in the cage.

I currently have a profile design set of cages that don't hold bottles to well, but you can put a bag underneath it.

x2  I heart my XLab carbonwing - never ejects bottles - worth every penny

My Xlab Super Wing wants to eject when I hit big bumps. I tightened the cages so they stay in, but they get a bit hard to pull out on the go. Still, it's an excellent piece of gear (all the Xlab stuff)

Birkie - what cages are you using?  I have been using metal cages (on an xlab flatwing)  so I can squeeze them in a bit... but the last one sheared off at the bolts.  Left the bolts in place, broke above and below and just disappeared.  Second metal cage that broke on me (different mechanisms)

And to the OP , my bag attaches to the seatpost and then I run the velcro straps up thru the flatwing.

Why do you wanna go with the rear mounted? I have a rear-mounted bottle holder, but this is my distant third choice to the Profile Design Aerobottle (first choice) or tube-mounted holders (second choice). Rear holder is a PITA for me to reach and less aero than tube-mounted.

I really like my Profile Design Aqua Rack. $29.99 at Performance. It attaches to the seatpost so your seatpost must be round and you have to take your seatpost out to get the rack on. I have room for a bag and I was even carrying an extra tire around for a while wedged between my bag and the rack.

The XLab carbon cages. Love 'em.  They have a stiff top lid (flange that points inward) that catches the top shoulder of the water bottle and holds it firmly in place.  Never have had an ejection.   I think the newest ones are called Gorilla Cage - still carbon - still expensive - but if it eliminates any worries about ejection worth every penny in my book.

I have an xLab on my P2 also, I love it.  But for racing ditch the bag and tuck the tire / flat repair kit / tire levers under your saddle!  I through them in a ziplock bag.  Then the bag is used for tools only for training should I have a serious problem.

If you are looking to go cheap consider the Minoura holder. Its super basic and you attach regular cages to it. Its been working great for me so far and only costs around $15. I also manage to fit my medium sized bag behind my seat by securing the bag in a vertical position between the seat post and the water bottles.

Minoura cage mount with Profile Design Cages. Inexpensive, out of the way of the saddle bag, and never launched a bottle.

Yeah, I went through two of these.  THe little bolts holding the plate off became loose, and when I tried to tighten them, they stripped.  Both times.  I did like it becuase you could scooch back a bit and "sit on" the bottles when going over rough road, so I never launched anything.  But the risk of having a piece of metal drop into my rear wheel when the assmebly inevitably fell apart wasn't worth the $15 risk....  Had to replace the whole system with something else just a couple weeks before IM

Maybe I just got two duds.

Hasn't happened to me over two years. Maybe you need to learn a little finesse

I too use the Profile Design Aqua Rack.  I use a little Locktite on the screws to keep them from coming undone.  I use one bottle-holder for my CO2, spare tubes, etc. and put everything inside a cut-up old water bottle and secure it with an XL rubberband (made from cut-up tire tube).  The other one carries my 750ml water bottle.  Works for distances up to Olympic.

That said, after crossing railroad tracks or a big bump I always check my water bottle because it does have a tendency to eject them.

For HIM or IM, or long training rides, I just add a Profile Design Aero Drink to the front.
